Noomi Rapace and Carey Mulligan are hunted for Ridley Scott's Alien prequel

ALIEN VS. NOOMI... has kind of a cool ring to it.

We'll see if it ever happens, but Deadline says the in-demand star of the "Millennium Trilogy" (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, etc.), Noomi Rapace, is currently being pursued to play the leading xenomorph-fighter in Ridley Scott's ALIEN prequel. The Swedish actress is prepping for a part in SHERLOCK HOLMES 2.

Despite recent rumors to the contrary, Scott's expensive and questionable 3D origin story seems to be blasting ahead, and is on the prowl for a leading lady. Other names on the wish list include Carey Mulligan (WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS) and Abby Cornish (A GOOD YEAR).

Scott seems insistent on revealing all the details behind the "Space Jockey" from ALIEN and the "purpose" of the Aliens themselves, because apparently retaining the mystery of anything cool is no longer possible. But "Lost" guy Damon Lindelof did a rewrite of the script, so maybe we won't get answers after all.

Extra Tidbit: Scott supposedly spent well over $200 million making ROBIN HOOD, so maybe those rumors of the ALIEN prequel's inflated budget fears weren't too far into fiction after all...
