It's sad that while everyone is clamoring over sequels to IRON MAN and THE DARK KNIGHT, one of the best superhero films of the summer, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, has been left out of the sequel talk. Sure it didn't break records at the box-office but it was quality and that should be the real benchmark for a sequel. MTV caught up with Edward "Dont Call Me Ed" Norton to talk about what, if anything, Marvel wanted to do with Hulk. Norton, perhaps still feeling a little sting from the creative battles he had with the studio, calls their thinking "opaque" adding "I don’t have any idea what they want to do." MTV describes a skeptical Norton when talk turns to THE AVENGERS as the actor says. "They’ve got this notion of collecting the Marvel characters...Who knows where they’ll go?"

You'll notice that Norton twice refers to those involved with the project as "they" and not "we," which would seem to indicate some kind of disconnect. While I'm sure Marvel would go on record as saying they'd love to have Norton back (just like Warner Bros. would "love" to have Bryan Singer return to SUPERMAN), I think they'd be just as happy to recast the role for whatever AVENGERS need they have. And from the sounds of things, that sounds fine with Norton.

Extra Tidbit: Can you at least bring Tim Blake Nelson back as The Leader in an AVENGERS movie?

Bruce: Eric Bana > Edward Norton

Betty: Jennifer Connelly > Liv Tyler

Gen. Ross: Sam Elliott > William Hurt

Oh, and dear god...STOP with the origin aspect in these films. Your wasting time.

Honestly he did an amazing job job acting because he is an amazing actor. The movie would'nt have been the same without him. And neither will the sequal

I agree with some of the posts here that I thought Incredible Hulk was better than Iron Man. I liked Iron Man, up until the end. I thought the villain was lame, the ending was lame. The Incredible Hulk had a lot of action and a better villain. I thought Ed Norton did a fantastic job as Bruce Banner and would like to see him reprise that role.

I love Ed Norton i think he's a fantastic actor but the guy just comes off as a fuckin power tool. He needs to understand that he can do big blockbusters and all his unique artsy film fans will still love him. He needs to cool his ego and just listen to the studios cuz he's gonna make bank.

It's funny how the director has tried to speak on the behalf of Norton, say there was no dispute between him and the producers while Norton himself has pretty much said he's displeased with the end product. Worst yet, it looks like we'll never see the cut Norton intended for theaters (the director has tried to calm things down, saying there was no cut to begin with). I get the feeling that...

I get the feeling that studio and director have totally abandoned Norton on this thing.

It's a shame things turned out the way they did. I actually enjoyed this more than Iron Man, and would've loved to see the longer cut.

In regards to the theatrical cut, it had a lot more depth to it than Iron Man, and a better fight at the end of the movie.

If they can't get Norton back then leave the franchise alone entirely. I don't want to see an Incredible Hulk 2 or Avengers movie without Norton as the Hulk.

I don't know if a sequel would really fit. I absolutely loved The Incredible Hulk, but the big green dude dished out enough action in one movie, I'm afraid the second may feel a bit repetative. That being said, Hulk should only make a return in the Avengers flick. Also, Edward Norton rules. He gave the new Hulk movie a special quality. Recasting him for a sequel / Avengers would seriously suck....

Aw...
I liked this movie--the first 2/3's of it were great..it's too bad Norton has such bad experiences with these projects though. I guess that comes with being sort of a control freak. He was a great Banner, and I'd like to see him come back.

I agree w/ DaForce too--why even reference the old TV show?? Enough of that shit..

I loved the film, though I had the distinct impression that the revisions and editing that Norton did not approve of did keep the film from being as psychologically driven as he would have liked.

However, the rock 'em sock 'em action scenes were suited for a summer flick, and I thought the film still had great depth and potential for franchising.

I do not believe Norton will attach himself to a sequel here, as he probably did not feel his ideas were well-received despite his experience with other films. Even his tone here is noncommital, a bit jaded. So be it. The film was head and shoulders above Ang Lee's piece of garbage (I'll never forget neon green Hulk jumping stupidly through the sand), and Norton is, well, Norton, and so the film had good and strong green legs, imo.

It's too bad that it didn't make more bank, but that is not the barometer of a film's worth for everyone, thank goodness.

They need to make a sequel
Hopefully they'll make it before the Avengers comes out. That's what they're doing with Iron Man. Edward Norton was awesome and the movie was really good. It was totally set up for a sequel. No more of him running away. At the end of the movie he learns how to finally control the Hulk.

The Incredible Hulk was a lot of fun, and I'd like to see the Leader appear in the sequel if they make one. The avengers movie seems a long way off, seeing as Marvel wanted to release Cap'n America and Thor prior to it, and I haven't heard much in the last couple months about those.

Meh. Incredible Hulk wasn't much better than The Hulk, IMO. They should just leave as it is, as The Hulk just doesn't make for great movie material.

Looks like Ed wants or is out. Hmm, maybe they'll take Bana back? If they ever make a sequel.

I wonder if part of the problem is that The Hulk, as a character, is boring as hell. "Hulk Smash!" is hardly good dialogue, and as a character, Dr. Banner is always trying to get rid of, not make the most of, his powers.

I just think that, when I get a few minutes past fanboy thinking, there isn't much of a "superhero" to be found here.

to me comic book movies owned this summer. TDK coming in at #1 of course, Iron Man at a HIGH #2 and Hulk at #3. Hulk was surprisingly good... after ang lees version i sure as hell had no high expectations for the flick. i'd like to see a sequel. i say go for it. and i agree with the extra tidbit

This was a badly made (especially with the horrible CGI) direct to DVD movie, and the box office reflected it. If the movie had been good, word of mouth would have saved it.

This is what happens when you disrespect the original material, and try to inject a really bad 70's tv show premise just because of nostalgia.

Ultimately forgettable film?
This IS one of the better Marvel movies and it's a shame if they don't communicate better with Edward Norton. He needs the credit he deserves and Marvel should answer to him. He knows what he is doing and I wish he would have more of a creative control over the film(s).

I WANT INCREDIBLE HULK 2!!!

I liked the film but not I'm not nearly as wild about it as other people are. I thought it was a well-made but ultimately forgettable film.

In fact, if it weren't for Hancock, TIH would have been the worst superhero movie this summer... The only other film we had was Hellboy 2 and it was a better film.
