Norton on Hulk 2 | Movie News
It's sad that while everyone is clamoring over sequels to IRON MAN and THE DARK KNIGHT, one of the best superhero films of the summer, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, has been left out of the sequel talk. Sure it didn't break records at the box-office but it was quality and that should be the real benchmark for a sequel. MTV caught up with Edward "Dont Call Me Ed" Norton to talk about what, if anything, Marvel wanted to do with Hulk. Norton, perhaps still feeling a little sting from the creative battles he had with the studio, calls their thinking "opaque" adding "I don’t have any idea what they want to do." MTV describes a skeptical Norton when talk turns to THE AVENGERS as the actor says. "They’ve got this notion of collecting the Marvel characters...Who knows where they’ll go?"
You'll notice that Norton twice refers to those involved with the project as "they" and not "we," which would seem to indicate some kind of disconnect. While I'm sure Marvel would go on record as saying they'd love to have Norton back (just like Warner Bros. would "love" to have Bryan Singer return to SUPERMAN), I think they'd be just as happy to recast the role for whatever AVENGERS need they have. And from the sounds of things, that sounds fine with Norton.

Extra Tidbit: Can you at least bring Tim Blake Nelson back as The Leader in an AVENGERS movie?

Betty: Jennifer Connelly > Liv Tyler
Gen. Ross: Sam Elliott > William Hurt
Oh, and dear god...STOP with the origin aspect in these films. Your wasting time.

It's a shame things turned out the way they did. I actually enjoyed this more than Iron Man, and would've loved to see the longer cut.
In regards to the theatrical cut, it had a lot more depth to it than Iron Man, and a better fight at the end of the movie.
If they can't get Norton back then leave the franchise alone entirely. I don't want to see an Incredible Hulk 2 or Avengers movie without Norton as the Hulk.

However, the rock 'em sock 'em action scenes were suited for a summer flick, and I thought the film still had great depth and potential for franchising.
I do not believe...

I do not believe Norton will attach himself to a sequel here, as he probably did not feel his ideas were well-received despite his experience with other films. Even his tone here is noncommital, a bit jaded. So be it. The film was head and shoulders above Ang Lee's piece of garbage (I'll never forget neon green Hulk jumping stupidly through the sand), and Norton is, well, Norton, and so the film had good and strong green legs, imo.
It's too bad that it didn't make more bank, but that is not the barometer of a film's worth for everyone, thank goodness.

I just think that, when I get a few minutes past fanboy thinking, there isn't much of a "superhero" to be found here.

This is what happens when you disrespect the original material, and try to inject a really bad 70's tv show premise just because of nostalgia.

In fact, if it weren't for Hancock, TIH would have been the worst superhero movie this summer... The only other film we had was Hellboy 2 and it was a better film.
