Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Although Gareth Edwards' GODZILLA was certainly received more favourably than the last attempt at bringing Godzilla to America, audiences felt as though the fight scenes between monsters were lacking and were clearly hungry for more of the title character. It's a little too early to say whether Michael Dougherty's GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS will offer an improvement on that front, but O'Shea Jackson Jr. (STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON) certainly thinks so. While speaking with Collider, the actor was asked about the upcoming sequel, and was quite excited to tease an unforgettable battle between Godzilla and King Ghidorah.

As a Godzilla fan, I know that I was shocked to find out that the second movie has King Ghidorah, like, King Ghidorah is the Godzilla bad guy, like, three-headed golden dragon that shoots lightning, is gonna be in the movie that I'm in! We got Mothra, we got Rodan, and we got King Ghidorah all in the same film, and in the last scene between Godzilla and King Ghidorah, I promise you, you will never forget it, in your life. As a nerd, I am foaming at the mouth to get in the editing room… Godzilla will be the number 1 movie. The way that [Godzilla] and Ghidorah fight… man… Kong better bring some shit.

O'Shea Jackson Jr.'s reference to Kong refers to the next film in Legendary's MonsterVerse, GODZILLA VS. KONG, which will feature an epic clash between the two monsters. In addition to Jackson Jr., GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS also stars Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, and Zhang Ziyi. The sequel will follow "the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance."

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS will hit theaters on March 22, 2019.
