Of course Bruce Campbell is in Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful

Aug. 4, 2011by: Dave Davis

Ever since Sam Raimi brutally bounced buddy Bruce Campbell around a cabin in THE EVIL DEAD, the director has often found a place for his friend in subsequent movies and TV projects.

So it's no great surprise that Campbell will pop up somewhere over the rainbow for Raimi's OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, as he tweets: "I. Am. In. Oz. Sam Raimi refuses to tell me what character I will portray. Just know that the role is PIVOTAL. "

The Chin similarly described his SPIDER-MAN trilogy appearances (announcer, snooty usher, maitre d'). Feel free to make guesses as to who or what he might play during his visit to Oz.

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL "imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well."

Campbell is also currently helping produce the entirely unnecessary remake of EVIL DEAD, in which he'll also appear in an unknown capacity.

Extra Tidbit: I'd still rather see a "Jack of All Trades" movie...

Is it too much of a stretch

To think he could be the giant head visage of the Wizard, like at the end of the original?

A Jack of All Trades movie would be wonderful and I reckon still within the realms of reality.

If he was younger I would say Scarecrow but now that he has a bit of a belly im guessing the Lion.

I also think its hilarious that him and Raimi are so close that he dosnt even know what role hes gonna play but its a pivotal one. I bet he didnt even have to test for anything.

Campbell is awesome. In everything, always.
Also, I love Michelle Williams, but Kristin Chenoweth should be Glinda...for obvious reasons.

Just occurred to me that the living, talking trees in Raimi's Oz might be a fair bit nastier than just throwing apples and insults at folk. *nervous laughter*
