Official synopsis for Steven Spielberg's War Horse has been revealed

Dec. 15, 2010by: George Merchan
Director Steven Spielberg has remained relatively quiet in the years since 2008's INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, hard at work on a multitude of upcoming projects. A year from now, though, the famed filmmaker will have TWO films released almost exactly at the same time: THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN and the sweeping World War I adventure epic WAR HORSE (in what sounds like it could be a great companion piece to his excellent early film EMPIRE OF THE SUN).

Today, DreamWorks has finally revealed the official synopsis to the folks over at Collider. The film, set for release on December 28, 2011, stars Jeremy Irvine, David Thewlis, Emily Watson, Stephen Graham, Tom Hiddleston, Peter Mullen, Nicolas Bro, David Kross, Leonard Carow, Rainer Bock, Robert Emms, and Patrick Kennedy.

Synopsis: From director Steven Spielberg comes War Horse, an epic adventure for audiences of all ages. Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meetsBritish cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughterbefore the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Mans Land.

The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horsean odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. War Horse is one of the great stories of friendship and wara successful book, it was turned into a hugely successful international theatrical hit that is arriving on Broadway next year. It now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history.
Extra Tidbit: EMPIRE OF THE SUN is maybe my favorite of Spielberg's films. What's yours?

Extra Tidbit: Look at my Avatar. Not only are we getting a new Spielberg film, but new John Williams scores as well. Spielberg/Williams is the greatest director/composer partnership cinema ever had.

Any film that doesn't have to do with war or politics. Jurassic Park all the way!

Im sure both of these films will be great. Steven Spielberg is amazing. However, neither of these movies interest me at all. Wont be seeing either of them even on blueray/cable. Wish he would move on to Lincoln or that Space sci fi one.

Tough choice, but for me it would have to be...

Jurassic Park...I can watch it multiple times and still love every second and it is still my favorite childhood movie...plus, the CGI in JP is still the best I have ever seen and it was made in the early 90's!

More Spielberg!

I can't get enough Spielberg. Very psyched to have this and Tin Tin coming out so close together. My favorite is hands-down Close Encounters.

Okay, I am now officially looking forward to this movie.

Since Spielberg is my personal hero, it's tough picking a favorite. I guess Raiders of the Lost Ark and Schindler's List, although he also did The Color Purple, Munich, Jurassic Park, CatchMe if you Can, E.T., Saving Private Ryan, and Minority Report. So, like I said, that's a tough question.
