Oh, he does have big eyes! Here's a look at the new suit for The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Feb. 25, 2013by:

So that's what those eyes went to! Last week, director Marc Webb teased the eye of a mask for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. Me, being me, decided to go out of the box for possible ideas. Now I just feel silly.

Our first look at Peter's new suit has already been revealed for our eyes to get a decent look at. It's not the entire costume, but you see the eyes on the mask and sort of get the idea they are going for. This suit feels a little more traditional when compared to the one from the first. It's actually pretty close to the Raimi suit, except for the eyes which have a different shape. Interested in seeing what the rest is going to look like. Webb did say that the eyes would be bigger, and that the suit would have some changes to color and texture all over.

Pretty big change though from the last suit. That one looked like someone sowed together some basketballs and got edgy with it. Below is a comparison between the two.

Synopsis: In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) finds, life is busy between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away but that's a promise he just can't keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 spins its web on May 2, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Dane DeHaan is doing some bulking up for the role of Harry Osborn: "Ive been preparing. Right now its just about getting all my work done and bulking up a little bit. Ill start shooting fairly soon in New York. I work out incredibly intensely six days a week and I eat every two hours. Mostly proteins and veggies. I consume at least 3,000 calories a day. Ive already gained seven pounds in six weeks!"

Love the new suit, didn't hate the first, I actually liked it more (his suit) for being different but still being the webhead. This series should get better as each film is released and dare I say it and offend the fanboys but end up being better than Raimi's trilogy. Which shouldn't be that hard in the first place.

Wait, they are just re-using the old design?

Huh? That's like using the Keaton batsuit from "Batman" (1989) in "The Dark Knight". The costume in "The Amazing Spider-Man" had it's flaws, but it did some things right as well (black webs, thinner home-made looking material, etc). So...they just threw it all out and went back to 2002?

They could have at least kept the new spider logo for the sake of continuity.

Yeah after looking at it again and again, it's just Raimi's costume with a different eye, no?

I hope this is real because I would wholeheartedly approve if it were. Think maybe they'll ditch those wonky red swirls and blue thumbs too? A guy can dream...

I don't think this is real, but the eyes are cool. I quite liked the texture of the last suit, even if it did look basketball-esque. So I'd like to see those eyes on a slightly modified version of the last suit. Everyone else is spot on saying the "new" one looks just like the Raimi suit, because it probably is. But hell, I might be way off.

It's nearly identical to the Raimi suit. This is both a good and bad thing. Good in that it recognizes its superior predecessor. Bad in that it is so desperate to meet or surpass its predecessor that it has resorted to blatant mimicry.
I tried watching The Amazing Spiderman, but it was so soulless and dull that I couldn't finish it. I have no faith in the sequel.
Also, how the hell did the producers and casting director completely miss that Shailene Woodley looks so much like Andrew Garfield

This suit is 1000Xs better than the first one. It does look a bit like Raimi's, but that only means that they are doing it right. Here's hoping the actual movie is just as much of an improvement (and that Garfield can actually be a smartass without coming off as a pissy douchebag this time around).

Garfield was a great Spider-Man but a terrible Peter Parker. No character gives me the nerd butterflies in my stomach more than Spider-Man, and seeing this suit is giving me those right now. Can't wait to see this suit in action.

I actually liked The Amazing Spider-Man yellowish eyes

But this looks more fitting for the more "comic booky" direction the franchise is moving in. I'm actually excited to see how Electro and Rhino are portrayed.

I hated the first movie, the costume was horrible...

This looks great though!! It looks less emo trash and more like a comic book. I am super pumped that things are finally going in the right direction.

Now this I can get behind. I liked the first one when not compared to Raimi's original version, but when compared the film sucks. The suit looks good though. More to my Spider-Man loving liking.

If they can fix all of the problems from the first one and make a good sequel then I'm all for seeing this opening night and having faith in this new franchise and all involved.

IS THIS OFFICIAL?

I'm seriously doubting it since the spider logo is the exact same one they used for the Raimi trilogy (at least on the DVD-boxset) and the raised silver-webbing as well. I suspect some fan made Photoshopping at work.

I like the shape, it's even better than the eyes on Raimi's suit. I wonder if the eyes will still look as white in the movie, because that really makes them look good and like the comicbook.

Judging by this shot, it resembles Raimi's costumes a lot. I think the mesh has the exact same polygon shape pattern. The red and blue hues look the same, too. And as the light falls on the thick rubber web and the chest spider sign, makes them look "silver"...
Overall looks good to me, thought.

I love it. I thought I would hate the first one, but ended up liking it too. Can't wait, just a Spider Man fan in general though.

I like it. It looks a lot more like the version in the Raimi films without being a carbon copy of it. With the Amazing Spider-Man suit, I felt they tried too hard to make it look different, and ended up with things like the blue fingertips, the odd-looking spider logo and the yellow lenses. "Sewed together from an old basketball" is a funny and apt description. I'm liking this one a lot better and can't wait to see it in action!

I always preferred the Todd McFarlane huge eyed Spidey. TO ME it gave the mask much more character. Not that Spider man needed more character.

I'm with you man but I guess were not in the majority here....I love Mcfarlane big eyes myself, but in the comics. I've fell in love with the smaller more cat like eyes similar to Romita's Spidey eyes. When looking at the comparison shots it looks like Spiderman downgraded his suite too, the two things that I really liked about the new costume from the first amazing spiderman was the texture and the eyes(minus the golden yellow) oh and I like the spiderman symbol on the front of his chest too.

So all in all I think they could have done an amalgamation of the two instead of going almost fully Raimi....I just feel like its a step backwards. I really think Webb folded to the pressure from some of the fans, I think its a wrong move, he's not distancing himself enough from the movies.
PS oh and one more thing, Take a look at the comparison shots, I always loved how the colors popped esp. at night from TAS costume, now there more washed out again.
