Oh rats; the red-band Sinister 2 trailer is here to keep you up at night

In the aftermath of the shocking events in SINISTER, a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon) and her 9-year-old twin sons find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Bughuul continues to spread with frightening intensity. The first trailer for SINISTER 2 hit back in April, but if you're craving a little more of the red stuff, this red-band trailer may take care of that fix!

I love me some Shannyn Sossamon, but everything about this trailer is screaming, "typical-lower budget sequel." Ethan Hawke did a terrific job of grounding the first film, and Scott Derrickson directed the hell out of that thing. Now that the cat's out of the bag (regarding the children), seeing events repeat seems far less exciting. Then again, I didn't think the marketing for the first film was anything special, and the film turned out decent enough. Perhaps there's a little more to this one that we're not seeing. Any chance there are little mutated ghost rats in the climax? That would be the cutest!

SINISTER 2 will hit theaters on August 21, 2015. sinister-2-poster

Looks like a rejected Children of the Corn sequel.

Two thoughts: 1) That rat/bucket/fire scene is a blatant Game Of Thrones ripoff. Yawn. 2) This reminds me of the trailer for The Happening, in the way that I feel like the trailer has shown me pretty much every single cool death scene from the movie, ergo I now have no need to see it. Bummer.
