Oliver Stone to direct pot distributing Savages

After directing WALL STREET 2 which is soon to release, Oliver Stone is looking to the books for his next film.

Deadline is reporting that Stone has closed a deal to direct and produce an adaptation of the novel, “Savages” by Don Winslow. The book has yet to be published but will be out in July. Winslow and Stone will collaborate on the script. Currently, the author is working on the first draft.

Here is the synopsis of the book courtesy of Deadline:

“In Savages, two pals from Laguna Beach pals share the same girlfriend and a thriving business growing and distributing the best-quality pot on the planet. When they resist being muscled by a Mexican drug cartel , the girl is kidnapped and the ransom is every cent they’ve made for the last five years. They agree to pay but hatch an alternate plan to get her back, get revenge, and then get lost.

Stone is hoping that “Savages” will be his follow up to WALL STREET 2. He’s also putting up some of his own money for the film. This will guarantee Stone more control over the project. The novel adaptation might be the next perfect film for Stone.

Winslow has other books going into development. One titled, “The Winter of Frankie Machine” is a mob book that once had Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese attached to it. Unfortunately it never got off the ground.
