Olmos joins Hornet

6 years agoby:

Now that GREEN HORNET has finally found its Kato, it seems the project is finally past its (exceptionally long) rough patch and has moved on to smoother sailing. But while Kato-casting is a long-awaiting breakthrough, Edward James Olmos announcing that he’s now signed on for the project is even further cause for excitement. Says Olmos via Hollywood Snitch:

“I’m on my way to do The Green Hornet. It’ll be a lot of fun with Seth [Rogen], Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz.”

A Gondry-directed action comedy starring Rogen, Cage and Diaz alone was a strange enough concept by itself, but throw Olmos in there, and you’ve now gone one level past random. No word on who exactly he’ll be playing, but if I had to guess, I would say someone old and wise. Call me psychic.

If the mention of Olmos has made you too nostalgic for “Battlestar Galactica,” I’m obliged to remind you that you’ll still see Admiral Adama back in form in the upcoming mini-BSG event “The Plan” where we probably find out he’s an angel or an alien or God himself.

Extra Tidbit: Who could round out this WTF cast completely? Iíll go with Mel Gibson, but Dakota Fanning is my second choice.

Agree with Jig Saw 123

So when Rogen announced on the Howard Stern show that this was going to be a "funny" movie, that officially put it into the "this movie will suck balls" category. I can't believe they're taking this great action comic character and making a comedy out of it. Bruce Lee is rolling in his grave right now. Sad, so sad.

I agree, it really is a great comic and it would be a shame to ruin this. However, I think it might be less of a comedy than people expect. Gondry tried to do this back in the 90's as a serious film and Chow quit the project (and is now developing his own super hero comedy) because the studio wouldn't let him do it in the vein of Kung Fu Hustle.

Maybe it's because I'm not a fan the Green Hornet and know nothing of the character but I'm intrigued by that film. I just see it as a Gondry film with that cast and seen that way, it looks pretty good!

"How can I teach these keeeds!?"

I can't wait for this, Nicolas Cage as the bad guy should be good.

This movie isn't going to be a comedy, Seth Rogen said that it will take the action very seriously but that the characters relationships together will be funny. Which sounds like real life to me, you laugh with your friends dont you? All comic book movies have funny moments in them, I'm sure The Green Hornet won't over do it.

If you look at the record... I'm really not sure how much of a comedy this is going to be

Stephen Chow left this project because the studio told him that they didn't want to do a broad superhero comedy, that's why he's working on his own superhero comedy project with Jack Black, heck JoBlo even ran a story about it a couple of months back. Moreover, Gondry grew up reading the comics and has been trying to get this movie made since 1996 (talk about persistance) he's said that he intends to remain faithful to the material. In fact Gondry has *never* said this will be a comedy. The

In fact Gondry has *never* said this will be a comedy. The only person who's continued to claim this will be a comedy after Chow's departure is Seth Rogen, and guess what? Rogen's not the director. Being that this is a Michel Gondry film I'm sure it will have a certain degree of lighthearted quirkiness, but the fact that he grew up reading the comics and has been pursuing the project for over a decade reassures me against anything that might come out of Seth Rogen's mouth.

Also, I bet Olmos ends up playing James Higgins, who is pretty much the Commissioner Gordon of the series.

On my list of people that need to fly aboard a highly questionable airplane; Seth Rogen.
