OmniCorp's website marks the beginning of viral marketing for the new RoboCop

07.09.2012

Looks like the company responsible for building the first robotic police officer, ROBOCOP, has launched their new website.

OmniCorp, known as Omni Consumer Products in the original ROBOCOP, is touted as a defense company on this new website. Check out their vision statement.

Safety. Conviction. Leadership.

For a half-century, these words have set the framework upon which OmniCorp has aimed to build a brighter world.

We don't do passive technology. At OmniCorp, our solutions generate a beacon of safety that we shine upon on the dangers of the day. No matter the obstacle - political, cultural, philosophical - we pursue our convictions around the globe to secure peace of mind at home. And when this requires bold new direction, we never allow doubt to shrink our duty. When your quality of life is in the balance, our leadership team will tip the scales.

Our products have elevated your lives. Our people have inspired your future. Our passion will always be at your side.

Seeing the ED-209 robot made me smile remembering the boardroom scene from the first ROBOCOP. It is going to take a lot to top the Paul Verhoeven original, but the cast and crew for this one gives me a lot of hope. They just better not pussy out and make this PG-13 like they did with ROBOCOP 3. What a waste.

ROBOCOP is being directed by Jose Padilha and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish and Hugh Laurie. It will hit theaters August 9, 2013.

My worst fear has come true, I hate the design of Ed 209

I don't know if it started with Transformers live action movie, but ever since then all robot/alien designs in movies have had the same sharp edges. I can't wait til this trend ends.

ED-209 re-design

That's the only cool thing i've seen so far about this upcoming movie but i'm still on the fence (I'm getting a [link] vibe from this - awesome looking but poor delivery).
Sure, the stop-motion movement of the first one looked clumsy but the guy getting blown to bits was classic.

I'm guessing the scenerio will go like this in the remake; ED steps in, malfunctions and shoots the guy but the camera will be on the muzzle-flashes of the gun and crowd reaction (for the inevitable PG-13)

Or the guy's guts will be splattering all over the place... CGI style.

WHAT???

are you f**kin kiddin' me?
the fake ads in the original "RoboCop" looked better than this.
do they have to remake all movies now?

the problem is that i wasn't even shocked by the crappy new "viral" ad...what shocked me most was to read all the positiv comments about this piece of sh*t!

no wonder that hollywood keeps remaking and destroying perfect cinematographic masterworks.

I instinctively squeed at that video. Despite all the dislike for reboots in general, I think the Robocop remake actually won't be a disappointment. It seems that the filmmakers do have the fans in mind, but won't needlessly pander to them. All the war machines in that video look crazy cool, and if ED-209 looked a little clumsy originally, he sure doesn't here. I wonder if stairs will still be the achilles heel.

Their new take on ED-209 is pretty good.

I like the redesign of ED-209. As for the remake itself, I am against remakes but I must also admit the original is dated in some ways, and a product of the 1980's. I am intrigued by a new version that would be radically different from Paul Verhoeven's version... without the satire and social commentary. Wait and see.

I'm usually not a fan of viral marketing but this is pretty good.

And is it just me or might this be the first viral marketing video that actually also works quite well as a (very unrevealing) teaser.
