Orlando Bloom officially signs as Musketeer villain

05.24.2010

Orlando Bloom starred in three of the biggest films of the last decade, yet he hasn't starred in a major release since 2007 (not coincidentally, the last PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN). But Bloom (who will not be returning for the fourth PIRATES film) is about ready to make a comeback as he's officially signed on to star in THE THREE MUSKETEERS.

Word is that Bloom will play the film's villain but wasn't Christoph Waltz already announced as Cardinal Richelieu, the film's main villain? (Yes, he was.) It seems that Bloom's character, the Duke of Buckingham, will be less of a villain and more of a "arch-nemesis" to the Musketeers who's literally described as "so cool that you can chop him into ice cubes and serve with vodka." Huh? Yeah, I'm not entirely sure either but just roll with it.

In addition to Waltz, Bloom joins a cast that includes Logan Lerman, Mads Mikkelsen, Milla Jovovich, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew Macfadyen. Paul WS Anderson is directing the film for Summit with a 3D release planned for the summer of 2011.

Bloom needs to be in another type of movie.

He could to well in this...but i would like to see him in a horror movie or maybe a MODERN day actioner. I feel he's a little done with all the period movies for awhile. And what could be more period than pirates and middle-earth? Plus Elizabethtown really ISNT all that bad...just not that good.

Actually....

I like Paul WS Anderson. His Mortal Kombat while dumb, was faithful to the game, and looked good. Event Horizon is excellent. The first Resident Evil movie (the only one he directed) was solid, if nothing at all like the game. Finally, his last movie, the remake "Death Race" was fun.

So, with this cast, and Anderson's solid eye for action, I'm onboard 110%.

I don't think I'm being overly harsh when I say Bloom is a horrible actor. Popular with the ladies, for sure, but stinks up every movie he's in.

hmmm... I didn't know Paul Anderson was directing this. Not sure if I like this, but maybe he will do it justice. It makes since that Mila is in it though, since it's a Paul Anderson film.

If it's anything like the 1973 movie

with Oliver Reed and Michael York, Orlando Bloom's character will be more anti-hero than villain. He causes the problem when he seduces the Queen of France, but ultimately helps the Musketeers stop Richelieu. I'm on the fence for now, but willing to give it a chance.

If Christoph Waltz weren't in this, I would be 100 percent uninterested. Nevertheless, a man of his calibur should work with a Paul Anderson with the letter "T" for his middle initial...

As for Bloom, I...I just can't conjure up a reason to care. Don't hate him, but nothing he's done thus far has compelled me really to like him. This is a big FEH so far.

But....

Why the hell does this guy keep getting employed? SERIOUSLY?! If I hear him deliver one more line in that 'monotone, one-level inflection' again I'll shit. He must be sucking some serious dick to keep being given roles.

Elizabeth town IS that bad. And WORSE.

Bloom is a bland actor who can't really hold up anything besides the LOTR movies.

I felt like everyone else when I read Anderson's name for director. But then I thought: could be worse, could have had Uwe Boll directing. Sit on that for a while.

This is another one of those times when you have a great cast, but a crappy director.

YAY!!! oh..... wait....fail.

I got super-excited when I read this. I'm a huge Musketeer fan. I like Orlando and after LOTR and the first Pirates, I figure he could have easily slipped into a legacy of remaking all of Tyrone Power's and Errol Flynn's films.

Then I saw Paul W.S. Anderson. Then I saw 3D. Fail. I won't be seeing this one. You've already gotten too much of my money Paul W.S. No more.

Until I see some actual footage I won't judge this thing too harshly...even though Paul WS Anderson is directing. But I will say that Bloom might be alright as long as he remains a supporting character because when Bloom has a leading role he is the epitome of "meh." (See "Kingdom of Heaven" or "Elizabethtown")

Elizabethtown

...WAS that Bad. Cameron Crowe would probably admit that. The whole movie felt forced. All the music was great (Crowe's specialty) but it was executed poorly. Orlando Bloom has potential to be a good actor...but he was too bland. And Kirsten Dunst played a typical love interest with no personality. She can be good too...but all her roles are usually miscast. She wasn't spicy enough to be Mary Jane either.

Orlando bloom in another cape and sword movie, what a surprise... man this guy looks like someone who wants to go pissing each time he tries to say a word! Alexandre Dumas must be dying another death in his grave, once again... well, this is Hollywood.

I would say he was in 6 (not 3) of the decades biggest films. Both the POTC trilogy and the LOTR trilogy were huge moneymakers.

Btw can't see how this can be any good based on that cast an director and then 3D on top of that.
