Orlando Bloom officially signs as Musketeer villain

Orlando Bloom starred in three of the biggest films of the last decade, yet he hasn’t starred in a major release since 2007 (not coincidentally, the last PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN). But Bloom (who will not be returning for the fourth PIRATES film) is about ready to make a comeback as he’s officially signed on to star in THE THREE MUSKETEERS.

Word is that Bloom will play the film’s villain but wasn’t Christoph Waltz already announced as Cardinal Richelieu, the film’s main villain? (Yes, he was.) It seems that Bloom’s character, the Duke of Buckingham, will be less of a villain and more of a “arch-nemesis” to the Musketeers who’s literally described as “so cool that you can chop him into ice cubes and serve with vodka.” Huh? Yeah, I’m not entirely sure either but just roll with it.

In addition to Waltz, Bloom joins a cast that includes Logan Lerman, Mads Mikkelsen, Milla Jovovich, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew Macfadyen. Paul WS Anderson is directing the film for Summit with a 3D release planned for the summer of 2011.
