Orphan actress joins Will Smith/ M Night Shyamalan scifi film

01.11.2012

Isabelle Fuhrman, the girl who terrified you in ORPHAN, is on a bit of a hot streak. She's set to appear as Clove in THE HUNGER GAMES, and now The Hollywood reporter says she's negotiating to appear opposite Will and Jaden Smith in AFTER EARTH. The film, formerly titled ONE THOUSAND A.E., is being directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

The story is set in a future where humans can no longer live on Earth after it becomes inhospitable. Will Smith is some war hero who crashlands on Earth, and his son, considered a failure as a warrior (maybe cause he's 13?) has to save him. Furhman will play Rayna, Jaden's character's friend.

AFTER EARTH will start shooting in March in Pennyslvania and Utah for a June 2013 release date. Yes, this is Will Smith's next summer blockbuster, and yes, it's directed by Shyamalan. After THE HAPPENING, I'm not sure if I can ever trust the director again, but he's made two and a half good films, at least.

Will and Jaden Smith making another film together again - is it like 'Bring Your Kids To Work Day' or something?

Sequel

Is this the long-awaited sequel to The Happening? After nature threatens to kill off every living person by making them want to commit suicide, there must have been a group of people who realized they had to get off the planet, right? That certainly would make it uninhabitable. Either way, it should be a part of his "environmental" trilogy, along side the movie about plants getting revenge and a film where ice people are threatened by fire (come on: how can that not be about global warming?)

Nice! I'm really excited to see her in "The Hunger Games" and this news just brings a smile to my face. It's good to see her doing well after "Orphan." The cast is also shaping out really well, me thinks.

Somebody's still willing to bankroll

M. Night Shyamalan??? After the crapfest that was The Last Airbender (don't get me started on the number of rookie mistakes he made), I'm amazed they still allow that idiot inside a studio lot.

I like Will Smith but not in non-comedies. But I'll wait on my final opinion until I get a trailer.

I think Will Smith might be able to help M. Night get his groove back. Creatively, he's really been struggling. Arguably, Smith might be the biggest star Night's ever worked with. And yes, that's including Bruce Willis. With that amount of star power, he could jump start Night's brain, and get him back to making cool movies again.

I SOMEHOW ...

... doubt Shyamalan will ever get his act back together. He was at his peak with Unbreakable, after that it was slow but sure fall down. Last Airbender was unwatchable, this looks better, but Smiths will be in the first plan, Shyamalan's directions comes second.
