Owen Wilson update

Aug. 29, 2007by: Ben Barna
I remember getting a text message from a friend the other night telling me about Owen Wilson. Like most of you I'm sure, it was hard to believe at first, but now it seems like it's real. And it looks like Owen Wilson's recent and shocking troubles will be affecting his upcoming work schedule. EW.com is reporting that Wilson will not be shooting his cameo in Hawaii for the Ben Stiller directed TROPIC THUNDER. Wilson was expected to be on set for a week, but due to his recent troubles, will not partake. It's unclear if the role will be recast or written out of the script.

Also, Wilson's new film THE DARJEELING LIMITED is set to debut on September 3rd (my birthday!) at the Venice Film Festival, but we don't know if he'll make an appearance for that. My guess is no. Wilson has another project, a comedy called MARLEY & ME, co-starring Jennifer Aniston, and since this film is still in pre-production, chances are he'll be able to fulfill his duties on that one. This just goes to show you, children. You can have all the fame, money, girls, and food in the world, but it really doesn't mean anything (okay, maybe a little). Get better Owen.

Extra Tidbit: Owen's non-famous brother Andrew is the one that found him.

I hope Owen makes a full recovery. that being said, that extra tidbit about his brother 'discovering' makes me laugh so hard for some reason. hahahahahhaha (obligatory hahas to show that even typing it makes me laugh, fueling the need to show it through said haha text).

Spoken like someone who has no concept of what it is like to be in such a dark state of mind that killing yourself seems to be the only way out of the pain. It's easy to distance yourself from the act and proclaim "it's disrespectful to those around you and it's a selfish waste of life", but I'm guessing that when you believe - whether mentally ill or just severely depressed - that your life is so painful that you have to end it, you're not thinking about anything else but escape and relief. Do I agree with suicide? HELL NO! People should get help, not take the "easy" way out. Do I understand why some people choose to commit suicide when they believe there are no other options other than taking their own life? Yes, I do.

Vulpe_vulpe,

Oh, so now he has mental illness AND is chemically imbalanced? Perhaps if Hollywood actually treated rehab as rehab and not just a vacationing spot we'd have less "imbalanced" folk running around.

Hopefully you never see the terrible effect a suicide has on people. I've personally seen it rip a family apart and wreck the life of a person I deeply cared for.

I think it's hilarious how people are passing judgement on a complete stranger...fame and money have absolutely no correlation with depression and emotional pain. Obviously wealth and fame will make your life easier in certain ways but jeezus look at history, tons of people who've "had it made" have taken their own lives. Everyone questions it because they have absolutely no view into the actual situation. He could have been struggling with this for years, maybe even before he got huge-who

His struggle is no more severe than anyone else's but it's still sad. His family is probably terrified for him. I really hope he can pull it together.

Lucien12 is a fucking moran

It's called mental illness you raving asshole. There are few exceptions (those being people trying to avoid a worse death or some sort of imprisonment) but for the most part nobody in their right state of mind has ever taken their own life. It goes against our human nature, our instinct to survive. The man is clearly in a dark place that you can't comprehend. All that external bullshit with his life and the people around him are triggers to a more deep seeded case of severe depression. People

Everyone goes through pain, but there's a difference between being bummed and committing suicide. It's a selfish and feeble way of escaping your problems by leaving all those that care about you new ones. There are very few times where suicide could possibly be justified. This is not one of them.

In Owen Wilson's case he has everything that any normal person could want. His life is made. So his girl broke up with him or he fought with a close friend or he had an alcohol problem (Some of the

In Owen Wilson's case he has everything that any normal person could want. His life is made. So his girl broke up with him or he fought with a close friend or he had an alcohol problem (Some of the motivations reported). Compare that to the pain his family would be going through right now should he have been successful. I really dig the guy and his movies but there are some things in life I can accept, except the waste of it.

On a side note I wonder what reactions people would have had if it were Paris Hilton who attempted suicide instead?

i never post here, but i felt the need to do so after reading the message from the dude below me. i really hate when people feel it's necessary to belittle one person's suffering to another's. yes, there are people with tougher problems in the world (sudanese war, darfur, soldiers in iraq), but honestly, that's no reason to write off anybody else's pain. just because other people suffer more doesn't mean that others can't feel pain too.

i'm not starving or poor or anything, but i think if it

It's always the comedians who are..

the most depressed. I feel sorry for Owen, it's not like he lives like Lohan or Hilton, he's a low key talented writer and actor. I hope he gets the therapy he needs. He seems to have a good support structure around him (Andrew & Luke), thank God for that.

usually-

You either expect more than you want, try to do more than expected or just can't handle the fame/fortune/life. You have to face the decisions you make.

Looking from the outside of the Hollywood machine, its pretty easy to figure out why a guy who seemingly has everything does something like this--you can get what you want, but it might not be what you need. One thing I wouldn't be too concerned about right now is his work schedule. Wilson needs at least a year, possibly two away from fame, drugs, alcohol, and all the crap that some think is all there is to life. Entertainers are generally insecure, lonely people, and this is what happens when

I feel sorry for Owen Wilson, but I still don't get why he did that. Does anybody? I haven't read much about it (just the user comments here), and no one has explained the reasons for the suicide attempt.

Why, Owen, WHY?

I don't blame Owen for trying to commit suicide. It must be difficult being rich, famous, having women (and men) fall all over you everywhere you go not to mention having an exceptionally high paying highly successful career. That IS a real tough life. Who's next, Steven Spielberg?

Don't get me wrong I like him and enjoy his movies but there are people in this world that are far worse off than him dealing with problems a 100 times harsher than he (or any of us) will ever need to encounter.

Not a rumor

It's been confirmed by the authorities that it was a suicide attempt. Check any number of sites for that story. Get well soon, Owen.

Let me say it again, it's a RUMOR that Owen tried to commit suicide. Is the rumor true or what?

When owen was here (in Queensland, Australia) filming just recently, aside from one (understandable) dummy spit at a local a**hole papparazzo he was an absolute delight to be around. he mixed with locals like a typical aussie beach bum, with none of the airs and graces you'd expect from a man of his stature.
I hope he (or someone he knows) reads this when I say there's alot of Gold Coasters here thinking of him and wishing we could be there to buy him a beer or two. On behalf of a mob of

owen wilson attempted suicide because he hasn't realized enlightment - you can have it all, but if something in your life is missing, nothing else matters.

Non-famous?!?!?

How can you call Andrew "non-famous"?!?!?!? He's played Beef Supreme!!! And he had one of the funniest scenes in Charlie's Angels. And was in Bottle Rocket. What did Federline ever do to achieve HIS fame? Oh yeah, that's right....Britney Spears. Kudos!

I hope he pulls through this and it helps him realize some life lessons...I feel sorry for the guy, he seemed to be one of the more genuine people in Hollywood...I hope this doesn't hurt his career...he really is a good actor and I've always enjoyed most of his work.

Just goes to show...even Ben asked...if money, family, friends, being on top of the world in a great career, etc, isn't enough to satisfy someone, what is?

I think some people might know the answer to that question...
