Paramount to do Sacha Baron Cohen's James Bond spoof
Amidst the excitement for SKYFALL and the return of Bond, Paramount has picked up a spy spoof.
The James Bond-like spy spoof is the brainchild of Sacha Baron Cohen and Phil Johnston. Their pitch is a comedy about a spy who, "is forced to go on the run with his long-lost brother, a moronic soccer hooligan". Cohen could possibly take a role in the film if the timing is right.
Since the project is in very early stages, there are no other details.
There have been several spy spoofs over the years. Last October, the JOHNNY ENGLISH sequel, JOHNNY ENGLISH REBORN was released. Early on, we had James Coburn in OUR MAN FLINT and IN LIKE FLINT.
Now I suspect this might be something worthwhile, especially since Johnston is on it. He wrote the script for CEDAR RAPIDS. If you haven't given that a chance yet, I suggest you do so. It wasn't what I expected, and I mean this in the best possible way. Teaming up with Cohen could deliver an interesting result.
