Paramount to release dramatic cut of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

Apr. 1, 2014by: Alex Maidy

Whether this is an April Fools Day joke or not, the mere fact that Paramount went through the effort to assemble this makes it worth noting. Now, as you may already be aware, ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES has been released in both a PG-13 theatrical cut, an extended unrated cut, and an even longer R-rated version with 763 new jokes. Now, a fourth cut has been announced: The No Joke Cut.

Removing all humor from the mix, The No Joke Cut will provide a rare, unique alternate look at a funny movie. Judd Apatow had this to say about the new version.

Comedies often fail to get the consideration they deserve because laughter masks the serious storytelling going on beneath the surface. This new cut illustrates that Anchorman 2 can hold its weight against any drama.

Director Adam McKay added the following:

People know that Will and I do many joke options for our movies, but I think what gets lost is the fact that underneath the laughs there's a very powerful drama at work. Movies like SOPHIE'S CHOICE, ORDINARY PEOPLE and BREAKING THE WAVES are the movies that inspire Will and me. I'm just glad, with the no joke cut, audiences can finally appreciate the rawness and drama of ANCHORMAN 2.

If only this were true! I can almost see it as a challenge to try and sit through the entire movie without cracking a smile would almost make for a fun drinking game. Even this trailer cannot eliminate all of the humorous moments from Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate's performances.

ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES hit Blu-ray today.

"I loved the first one but hated the sequel" I read a lot about Anchorman 2 and if that's the case for people your taste in comedy has changed greatly since the first one or you're a fucking idiot. A2 is a great sequel which I felt surpassed the first one with the laughs. Everyone involved seemed to be having a blast and it shows. Haven't seen the R or unrated cuts but I am definitely buying the bluray for all the extras. I still hum the doby song occassionally, six months after seeing it in

I Agree, WTF is with people saying that they hated it? It was fucking hilarious and just as quotable, if not more, that the first one.

It was hysterical. By the time the "cameo party" happened, I was laughing uncontrollably.

This April Fool's Day joke is just an extrapolation of the trend of "recut trailers", where a movie trailer gets a fan edit to seem like it's for a whole other genre. My favourite has got to be 2001: A Space Odyssey as a modern action blockbuster: [link]

I'm disappointed

that this wasn't immediately intuitive as an April Fool's day joke to the people posting. Guys - seriously; this isn't real. Even the article is a little depressing with it's opener: "Whether this is an April Fools Day joke or not." There's no "or not." Not even a little.

Please God, no! Be a 1 April joke.

I saw that R-rated cut and it was hands down a contender for worst movie of 2013 AND 2014. Hated every minute of it. It was painful watching Will Ferrel work hard to be not-funny.
As a drama, the movie is scattershot, introduces characters and plot devices at the wrong time, all while failing to tickle my funny bone. A "dramatic" cut would just be depressing.

I can't tell if this is an April Fools joke or not, but if it is, I do hope some fan creates a No-Joke Cut anyway. That actually sounds pretty brilliant
