It's almost astounding to me that people are sitting around a giant conference room table somewhere agreeing that the big problem with TRANSFORMERS 2 was that it didn't have enough stuff flying at the audience's face. But then again, I don't think for a second anyone is trying to make a better TRANSFORMERS movie, just a more profitable one, and for that 3D certainly makes sense.

In an article on the boon of 3D films, Variety is reporting that Michael Bay, Paramount and ILM are having ongoing discussions about shooting TRANSFORMERS 3 in 3D. If you'll remember, I caught up with Bay at ShoWest last year and when the question was posed about 3D, he said it was a "gimmick" and a "fad" and swiftly answered NO when asked if a TRANSFORMERS movie would be in 3D. But while money talks, bullshit walks. And if AVATAR has proven nothing else, it's shown that 3D can bring in a LOT of money.

According to the article, the issue at hand is the additional time required to shoot a film in 3D (especially one as VFX heavy as a TRANSFORMERS film). Were they just shooting TRANSFORMERS fresh, this might not pose a problem, but Paramount has already locked in a July 1, 2011 release date. So do you stick to that date and scrap the 3D (which I'm sure would be fine with Bay) or do you go for 3D and push the film back to 2012?

Do you care one way or another if TRANSFORMERS 3 is in 3D?

I'm beneath giant enemy scrotum..... IN 3-D!!!!!!!!!

Ugh. Transformers sucked. Transformers 2 sucked. Megan Fox sucks. Michael Bay sucks. Just let this series die and hopefully Bay will stop making movies.

ya, unfortunately part 3 will be 3d (probably like every other blockbuster in the next few years). 3d sucks. avatar would have been just as great visually in 2d. no need for 3d whatsoever.

just stick with great cinematography and not useless 3d bullshit.

3D Porn and TF3 Reboot
Any older guys here remember them being around and going to them? If so, do you think it worth pushing the 3D craze until it, too, makes a comeback? Thank you for your time.

PS: I almost want to put money on the "big wigs" wanting a reboot of TF given current trends. If not, "Transformers: Cybertron - Witness the beginning and destruction! *poosh!*poosh!*peeghhhh!*boom!* Coming...

3D is just a gimmick. Although a Transformers movie in 3D could work, I think Michael Bay's already proven he doesn't know how to make a great Transformers movie. Amazing effects and explosive action for sure, brilliantly well done, but the films are dumb, annoying and devoid of worthwhile characterisation. Fix that before you start trying to take the effects to the next dimension.

I really don't care if any movie is in 3D...just another attempt to squeeze more money out of a already overpriced product.

We simply don't need another damned Transformers movie. I hope no one can resolve this and doesn't happen. Alas, I am a dreamer, I know.

what crap
I am starting to regret paying for AVATAR if it means every other piece of junk is gonna do it too. Avatar was a great movie but top me the 3D isnt that great, I saw in in 2D as well and there wasnt much difference, those little nats flying around still looked like they were floating in the theater with you.

It won't be. It most assuredly won't be. Look at it logical-

It made shit tons more than it's predecessor.

Bay has stated that he "wants less robots" in the latest installment. Can you even have less robots than 1/4 of your 2.5 hour long movie?

It's fricking Michael Bay.

I'm with ya here. Really hoping Bay gives them 1D, as in the finger. Haven't seen either Transformers flick, and don't care to, but this 3D thing has to stop.

Funny this comes up just when they are going to be scaling down robots for a more, ahem... "character driven piece."

I agree with Bay's reasoning, it is gimmicky in my opinion. But I feel it's a no brainer that the studio will push for 3D. Sad, but like you said, money talks.

disgusting...
what's funny is were talking about movies/entertainment, yet the decisions being made are as poor as politics. we have no control over this shit, we're a statistic and we prove time and time again that the quality of story-telling can take a back seat to everything else. we'll watch it because "it's summer" or "it's just a movie" or "we're fucking stupid". the fact that this is being made, and...

Oh, and Avatar, you're not any better.

While I disagree with you about Avatar, I completely am onboard with your ideology.

WTF?
Please - NO. Sure, it's true that 3D is bringing in the money, but I think Bay was right: it's a gimmick and it's a fad. Everyone else is doing it, so let's jump on the bandwagon. No, no, no, no. Personally, I don't want to sit through a movie with weird, distorted, and uncomfortable glasses on my head. It's annoying, and distracting from the movie. Why, oh why, is 3D such a "great thing" now?...

The horror.
Wrecking balls in 3D? "They're dangling so close, you can almost reach out and touch them." No thanks.
