Paramount will open Transformers 4 in 2014

02.13.2012

Of course they will! Why wouldn't they? Did you read that TRANSFOREMRS: DARK OF THE MOON made $1.124 billion worldwide and is currently sitting at #4 for all-time box office?

So yeah, even without Michael Bay or Shia Labeouf this going to happen... studios don't just leave money laying out on the table like that.

Coming Soon recently talked to Lorenzo Di Bonaventura about the possible film.

"We’ll be there in the summer of 2014," he confirmed, as well as addressing (albeit vaguely) whether Michael Bay will be returning as director or not. "Michael had a debate because he sort of felt at first that he'd done three. Michael and I are both the same in that we always like to top ourselves. That doesn't necessarily mean bigger. It can be bigger in places, it just means different, but we're going to push really hard as fresh and new as we can be."

Know what would be really new and fresh? Cut the running time of the next one down by an hour.

They're considering doing what they've done with G.I. JOE: RETALIATION by making it somewhat of a reboot. "Again, we're going to try to do a hybrid there where there will be some characters that come forward--we think, we're still in the process of figuring it out--and some characters that don't, but it will definitely be a different story."

After DARK OF THE MOON are you folks ready for another giant robot battle? What else could they possibly do with the story? And the most important question- will you be there if Bay doesn't return?

If Bay doesn't return, I hope Kenneth Branagh would get the gig. He makes Thor work so well. So why not Transformers? He could weave the tale of Cybertronian War into something of gigantic proportion.

Sweet! But this time, instead of having the main bad ass good guy be stuck in cables for 30 mins, have him twist his ankle real bad, explaining why he shows up for the main fight once everybody lost hope...

Oh yeah, why not?

Makes no difference whether Michael Bay returns or not the damage has already been done.
As for the story, hows this: Cybertron is once again falling towards Earth (don't ask how) and it up to a joint team of astronauts and autobots to construct and fix giant nuclear-fueled rocket boosters on the planet to blast it away form the earth to prevent a collision. (cue: patriotic music with US flag blowing in slow-mo while camera pans around the heroes who are posing like badasses)

But the Decepticons are already there (once again don't ask)to make sure the mission fails, so expect an all out laser gun (and maybe a machine gun somewhere) fight with awesome explosions, as well as space jet and/or space car-chases (think Tron: Legacy meets Star Wars) on the planet and a CGI cameo by Chuck Norris( in 3D/IMAX, obviously)
Yep that its, now all we need a Victoria Secret model to strut her stuff in space.
Oh and I think the MORE important question is Summer 2014 will I be watching this or Avatar 2?

Lets get Dwayne Johnson in there, make this a fullblown action flick, more robot screen time, and definitely less humancentric storylines. This could turn out awesome. I hated the last one though.

Awesome. So in 2014 we get to see another two hours of Michael Bay being even MORE obnoxious than he was the last three times.

Pare down the number of Transformers, have the movie revolve around them, cut out the braindead kids humor and the goofy accents and MAYBE I'll see it.

Great News!

I LOVE the Transformers films! They're action-packed, fun and exciting. Can't wait to see Transformers 4.

Dinobots, unicron, omega supreme, predaking, skylynx, the various combiner teams. any of that and less human story would work.

Dark Side of the Moon ?

There used to be good blockbuster movies in the 80's, they released two or three of them each summer, they were worth it.
They started making a bit more of those in the 90's, not always good.
In the years 2000's we've been invaded by blockbusters, one (if it's not two) every week and they ain't what they used to be. There is no heart put in most of them, and Transformers are some of the worst.
I really hope they can make a good one at some point, but it's getting hard to have faith when

Only a matter of time.....

Dump all the human characters from the trilogy, study-up on the cartoons/comics more closely, focus on the bots, lock in Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, done!

Make the robots the lead characters. That would help a lot.

I'd hate to be the director who has to follow Michael Bay. That's not to say the series can't be improved (it can). Say what you will about the man, but Bay leaves some big shoes to fill.

I want the lead to be...

Optimus Prime! I know, it sounds silly, having a Transformer being a main character in a Transformers film, but maybe it could work.

Another one? Eh...

I'm a Michael Bay fan, but from his movies I prefer The Rock-type films. You know, when the humans aren't just annoying supporting characters.

if . . . . .

I think this would be an improvement if Michael Bay wasn't involved.

Come on, Bay - there's plenty more footage from your old movies to be re-recycled yet!

lol! the economic recession was evident in DOTM when some of the explosions looked like obvious fireworks and I also heard the one about the one scene that DID use footage from The Island.

New Blood!

There's no way in hell, short of offering him $100 million, that Shia LaBeouf is returning. I liked the idea of Jason Statham being the new lead, believe it or not. I don't hate the Transformers franchise as a concept but I despised Bay's aesthetics and I think new blood would be good. Who knows, though. Meh.

They should ask The Rock, he loves making random sequels.
