Paranormal Activity 2? | Movie News

It's really a no-brainer that any studio who picked a $15,000 movie on its way to gross $100M would want to do a sequel. But isn't there a BLAIR WITCH cautionary tale to be learned from?
According to the Los Angeles Times, Paramount isn't even done patting itself in the back for acquiring PARANORMAL ACTIVITY that a sequel is already being looked into. Says broadly-smiling studio chairman Brad Grey, "We have the rights on a worldwide basis to do 'Paranormal 2' and we're looking to see if that makes some sense." In Hollywood makes sense is usually code word for Cha-Ching Motherf*ckers.
What WOULD indeed make sense? Doing a sequel with 10 times the budget like BOOK OF SHADOWS which ended up a bigger dud then the original, or cheaply trying to recreate the original formula with another cost-less film that would hopefully generate just as much word of mouth? What say those who saw the film?

Extra Tidbit: CLERKS is a great example of a successful $5M sequel to a 10-grand original, but it came 10 years later and it's a Kevin Smith film - the dude has a built-in fanbase.

Maybe then they'll have a good movie.

I discounted that idea because i didn't think the idea warranted one. Part of the appeal was the low budget aspect, if they do something similar with a bigger budget, i don't see it working.

More loud noises, a couple of demon faces, doors slamming, porn movie acting, just let the first stand on it's own, i won't see a cash grab, this one is fresh, it was an experience, a sequel would be idiotic from a narrative standpoint, but they can't help themselves, so we are getting one.
It could be a prequel, delve into the mystery of her childhood and the entity that haunted her as a child, somewhat of a Curse of the Blair Witch deal, but that's more of an interesting supplement for a dvd release.
Just please don't do a Saw and release one every year for the next ten years.

There are lots of parts about ghostly encounters which remained untouched, and i think director Peli earned the right to make a bigger budget studioflick!
