Paranormal and Saw teams combining for low budget Insidious

Feb. 5, 2010by:

Two of the most prominent teams in low-budget horror are combining for a new project. The two guys behind the original SAW, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, are about to film a new horror film series on the cheap (at least five films long), and itís being produced by PARANORMALís Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider. Throw some BLAIR WITCH alumns in there, and youíve got yourself a stew!

The first project in the series is called INSIDIOUS and it was formerly known as THE FURTHER which was said to be about ďa young family that makes the terrifying discovery that the body of their comatose boy has become a magnet for malevolent entities, while his consciousness lies trapped in the dark and insidious realm known as The Further.Ē But it is possible plot details have changed since this was first reported.

Wan says the idea is to take a traditional haunted house movie and ďflip it on its head.Ē I feel like THE OTHERS sort of did that, but Iím interested in what Wan means by that. Whatever the case, most will agree with the original SAW was groundbreaking in a lot of ways for the genre, and PARANORMAL was pretty decent as well. Iíll be interested to see what the melting pot comes up with.

Extra Tidbit: As cool as it was to see Jigsaw get off the floor in Saw I, why was it in any way necessary for him to be there?

If this means no Saw movies for a year, Thank God!

Extra tidbit: I dont know. But its in no way possible to stay there and not move and not make any noise of any kind for hours, especially if he is asleep.

It wasn't necessary for him to be there. AND I've been saying that for years. It's revelation for device, it didn't have anything to do with the story.

flaws like that in saw are why i hate the series, ya, jig saw 123 -- if he wants a front row seat... he could stand behind the glass and watch, then he wouldnt have to have a front row seat where he couldnt see anything, had to keep his eyes shut the whole time and fake death, just listening in and hoping everything happens the way it did in the movie, cuz if anything was different, his plan would been recognized for its stupidity

Sorry predator but Wan and Wannell no longer have anything to do with the Saw series (Wan was gone after the first installment and Wannell took off after the 3rd). Also, the movie hinges on the moment Jigsaw arises from the floor in the bathroom, without it the movie just ends and that's it! It sets it up for the sequel which I thought was amazing. Finally, anyone who has seen the other movies in the series knows that Jigsaw injected himself with a drug that numbed his body and slowed his

Wan + Wannell = Good idea - don't forget that wan also directed Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon in which Wannell had a minor role and probably had something to do with the writing or production.

It was said in the very beginning of the film that Jigsaw "likes to get a front row seat to his own sick little games." So yes, it was necessary for him to be present.

If I remember correctly, in Saw II, they show a flashback where he takes some pills to go to sleep, so he was unconcious... I don't know about you, but that doesn't seem like a front row seat.

Plot-wise, i don't really think that was a necessity, though my memory cells are a bit groggy.. But hey, that was one of the defining moments of the movie.

Boy, I hope this is nothing like The Others. Five minutes into a movie everyone raves about and I've already figured out how its gonna end. Glad to see Wan and Whannell are returning to the genre though, for five movies no less. Can't wait.

Also if he was not there he would not have been able to mess with the two captives through things like electrifying them.

Very interesting...

Excited to see what this team comes up with, Saw was good and Paranormal was scurry as hell!
