Patrick in T5?

03.04.2009

After the release of the mind-blowing new trailer for TERMINATOR SALVATION, it's hard not to melt away our collective McG-related skepticism and embrace a sense of white hot anticipation. McG--the oft-maligned director--seems certain that his film will be a smash hit, and has already started talking about a potential sequel.

There has been much talk of potential Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton cameos in SALVATION, but it appears as though McG is already looking beyond that. In a recent interview with FearNet, the ambitious redheaded helmer discusses the possibility of including T2's Robert Patrick-- the chilling T-1000--in a possible fifth installment of the Terminator series.

I like the idea in a prospective next picture that you meet Robert Patrick the way he looks today, and he’s a scientist that’s working on improving cell replication so we can stay healthier and we can cure juvenile diabetes and all these things that once again sound like good ideas — and once again live as an idealized expression of ourselves. So imagine seeing a sixty-year-old Robert Patrick and knowing, ‘Holy shit! That’s gonna be the T-1000 – who comes back perfect, lean and the whole thing.’ I haven’t concluded that, but Robert and I had dinner the other night and talked about it.

Personally, I would love nothing more than to see a T-1000 origin story. He is by far one of the most intimidating and terrifying villains in recent memory. Although McG might be getting a little ahead of himself, watching T-1000's inception would be satisfyingly electric if not electrifyingly satisfying. Maybe it would even go so far as justifying why I wet my bed whenever I see a cop on a motorcycle pass by.

Extra Tidbit: If T-1000 ain't the most badass villain of the nineties, who is?

Robert Patrick is a very underrated actor. I'd really like to see him attaced to T5 in some way or another. A T-1000 origin story could be very cool if it's done right.

I guess everybody's forgotten about the deleted scene in Terminator 3 where we see Arnold as some fuckin' military guy.

Origin stories are getting tiresome. Do we really need to continue fucking up the mystery behind the origins of our favourite villains?

Other than that, here's to T4. It's looking great.

Id like to see this eventually happen but him in the next movie would be skipping over Skynet sending back the first Terminator in time.

It would tickle me pink if at the end of this movie they did film a Schwarzenegger cameo and show Skynet sending back evil Arnie and T-1000.

Will this mean they will be sending Kyle Reese back in time too?

On a side note: Im reading that Terry Crews will play a refugee in Salvation this would be the most fitting movie of all movies that he does the

Liquid Metal

While Patrick and the T-1000 were way cool, they did sort of spoil the Terminator "Universe".
For starters, the liquid metal man was a way to show off early CGI. It's simple and looks cool. But once the Termies are indestructible liquid metal? Where to do you go from there? It's the whole Superman Problem... when you can already do anything, then what next? Termie 3 obviously took a step back to a robot more advanced than Arnold, but still based in a mechanical world.

Anyways. It's

Anyways. It's movies about fricken robots from the future. Silly to take it seriously.

Silly Ajjara

It was a trailer, dude. You want full disclosure of the movie in the trailer? More misplaced elitism on the internet. Surprise, surprise.

Mindblowing??

So what was good about the new trailer? how common knocked out a robot with the butt of his gun? the tapes that john connor was leaving for no one in particular? or the plan that skynet made a robot that doesn't know he's a robot and hates robots? or the fact that the whole things looks so bad it's almost embarssing? other than that it looks great!

Would be awesome

I just watched terminator 2 just to be sure that the cop wasn't Patric because I had thought for the longest time that it was Patric as the cop who is killed. It wasn't and the whole story line now sounds pretty awesome!

um I dont think the first person T-1000 came in contact with was robert patrick, there was all the lightning and a different cop, then T-1000 kills the cop already looking the way he did, so the origin thingy could work I guess.

uh... wait...

wait... wait... i'm all for a T-1000 origin story, but, uh, it wouldn't include robert patrick, right? the only reason it looked like him was because that was the first person it came in contact with. it's original form is just a humanoid-shaped liquid metal body, right? we see what happens when it goes back in time, that's where robert patrick comes in, but he would play no part of what happens before it gets sent back in time.
am i right here, or just confused on the whole thing?
McG makes

T-1000 FTW!!

Albeit Total Recall's Richter, Cliffhanger's Qualen and Die Hard III's Simon Gruber are serious contenders for the "best villain of the 90's" crown IMHO.
