Patrick Wilson and two other actors leave the cast of Ant-Man

Jul. 25, 2014by:

While we don't know how far into the future Marvel will make announcements during their panel at Comic Con tomorrow, we know there will have to be news about AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and ANT-MAN. Fans are likely most curious about ANT-MAN after the departure of Edgar Wright and want to know what the heck is happening with the production. In advance of that presentation, some casting news has been revealed and they are definitely not additions.

Deadline is reporting that three actors have left the production, led by Patrick Wilson. Wilson's dropping from the cast seems less related to the creative direction of the film rather than the hiatus after Edgar Wright's departure pushed ANT-MAN into conflict with other obligations on the actor's slate.

The other two actors leaving ANT-MAN are Matt Gerald and Kevin Weisman whose characters were excised completely from the recent script rewrites. Weisman is best known for the role of Marshall Flinkman on ALIAS and Gerald played Havoc in G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. It is unknown exactly what their parts were set to be but any casting changes remain black eyes on the already troubled production.

I would expect Kevin Feige and Marvel to pull out all the stops to present their panel tomorrow with ANT-MAN announcements hopefully coming with positive news. Everyone swears up and down that Wright's departure was amicable, but fans will remain reluctant until we see some footage. Stay tuned here at JoBlo.com and we will bring you the news as it develops.

ANT-MAN hits theaters July 17, 2015.

That's pretty much what you have to expect when you decide to switch directors halfway into production. From the sound of the rewrites, they were expecting all of these departures anyway. It sucks, but it's still not as troubled as the Incredible Hulk production. :P

If this was happening on a DC movie a lot of you guys doing the downvoting on comments questioning Marvel would be forming a conga line around the block.

who knows though...

what if Edgar Wright wanted to do something so off from the comics, and Kevin Feigie stepped in?

Did you see Scott Pilgrim? There's no way the problem was comic accuracy. The guy knows how to be accurate to a comic.

Come on, Marvel. You've got franchises and money coming out the ass. Ant-Man, Black Panther, Dr. Strange etc are chances to let people do something different. Maybe even great. Push your vanilla shit onto the masses but take some chances with the lesser guys.

Calm down guys. Where there's smoke there's not always fire... Maybe they're just searing a delicious steak for us.

The more news that comes from this, the more I unfortunately think this project is going to be the black eye on the MCU. It's going to be in theaters in less than a year now, and they are still doing rewrites and losing top talent. What could have been.....

According to Jeff Bridges, they were doing re-writes on the set (the day of shooting scenes) of Iron Man. That turned out okay....

You're getting multiple down votes because you dared to question Marvel Studios, which isn't allowed on this site. But if you even whisper anything positive about DC - Watch out!

Des - on Iron Man, RDJ pretty much ran that production. He tore apart nearly every scene he was in and force them to rewrite it, or he ad libbed his own dialogue. That was back when Marvel had no clout and someone on set could get away with that. What you're hearing about with Ant Man is basically the opposite of that.

I'm mixed on this. Wilson is a great actor and he would have helped this film, but on the other hand I understand leaving because this production has been a nightmare so far.
