Paul Feig isn't going to be rebooting anything else

08.08.2016

paul feig, ecto-1- ghostbusters,

Paul Feig is done with the hassle of rebooting a movie like GHOSTBUSTERS, widely regarded as a classic to large swaths of fans and an entire generation of movie-goers. After meeting the vitriol many had for his take on the material head-on for a number of months, Feig has decided that it'll be nothing but original material from here on out for him.

In a new interview with The Huffington Post, Feig was asked if he'd be interested in putting his stamp on any other established properties or franchises, to which he replied, "No, no, no. No, I will not. This one was just too tempting because I knew we could do something with it that was exciting.”

However, if the haters somehow think they've beaten Feig down with their harshness towards the movie, they're sorely mistaken. You see, this version of GHOSTBUSTERS was never meant for that audience, and the approach Feig took towards the franchise in casting four comedians as the title squad has been validated by those who have embraced it.

“It’s such a validation for the years of false controversy. Up until then it was me just dealing with a bunch of angry dudes. There’s a whole generation of kids and young people who didn’t have their own ‘Ghostbusters,’ who, to them, even though it’s a great movie, it’s an old movie. I don’t know why all this was controversy leading up to this, because heroes are heroes. It doesn’t matter what gender they are."

There is an entire generation of kids right now who have their own GHOSTBUSTERS and have been inspired by the actions of this new team. Speaking from personal experience, I have seen my daughter go off playing with the neighborhood kids, pretending to be a Ghostbuster, something she hadn't done before - even having seen the original. That one in 1984 was for us. This one was for them. You don't necessarily have to like it as we all get a little older and change is happening around us, but you really should try to understand it.

Feig brought it all on himself...

First of all... nobody cares, Mr. Feig. You don't bite the hand that feeds you. Feig and Sony were so vocal about their agenda. How about just make a good film that we can go see and enjoy? Instead we get this bullshit crammed down our throats. They ditch a film with the original Ghostbusters... and then accuse the fans of being sexist when we don't like their take. Feig's handling of the backlash made it even worse.

I couldn't take him serious anymore since the stupid ways he tried to handle fan backlash. He talked so much garbage!

Instead of being juvenile and throwing insults back at the haters, he should have made the best damn movie he possibly could. That would have been the best way to shut them up. But he made the same movie he always does, which only appeals to his audience, instead of a movie that would appeal to many. Plus, there were the little jabs at men throughout the movie, which only compounds the issue. It's hard to respect someone like that. Feig is the whiny kid who tells the teacher every time someone

Thank duck for that, I don't want him within a hundred miles of any other classic film, sequel or reboot.

Feig is not a lover of film!

His excuse for making his Ghostbusters the way it was is because it was old? What kind of film director, other than maybe Michael Bay, would ever actually think that? If you make movies as a profession, then you need to be a lover of cinema, not saying that something being "old" is a bad thing. Never mind that the 80s isn't even old by film history standards, unless you are a teenager? How can any writer on this site defend him after such an implication (not singling out any particular

Feig is an asshole, that preyed on the general public's sense of nostalgia, and took an idea from the past (that was a hit) and tried to push his agenda. He doesn't have an original thought in his head, and this abortion proves it.

I've seen the movie, and taking aside the whole gender thing it's still a pretty shitty movie. It doesn't seem like Feig have any idea how to make a funny PG-13 comedy even with a good cast on his hands. Also the Ghostbusters only trapped one ghost (which they then released for a dumb Bill Murray joke) and just played proton hockey with the rest. What the f was that? It was dumb and the movie just falls apart in the climax.

Uhhhhh no.

He can call it whatever. Audience that he's talking about wasn't there. Hollywood math is pretty simple, look at what was spent versus what was taken in.

You tried, you failed.

He is still blaming it on gender?!?!

I will be happier when an article says "Paul Feig retires from directing forever."
Or even better, "Paul Feig banned from directing forever."

I finally got around to seeing it. And I liked it. It wasn't a classic, but it did what it did very well. It gave us a new, different take while cleverly working in easter eggs for the older fans willing to take a chance. This movie is the kind of thing that will get it's just amount of adoration and criticism from the people that actually bother to see it. This is a powder-keg of divisiveness for no particular reason, and I'm the first green bar on here, but personally, I'm ready for a sequel.

divisiveness for no good reason??? Are you sure you watched the movie? Your telling me that end battle in the city and the fight with Rowan with all the cheesy/stupid one liners was good?

Keep pushing that feminist narrative

People didn't reject the new Ghostbusters because the actors were female. They rejected it because it just wasn't funny. The only good news is that this will be forgotten even by its defenders in a year or two while the original will endure as a classic.

Best fucking news ever!

This is a gift from God. I watched the end battle scene on youtube, as well as the fight vs Rowan (however you spell it), and MY GOD was it pure SHIT. I honestly can't fathom who found that bullshit entertaining or funny at all. It was truly awful. I don't know how the earlier parts of the movie were, but from judging those 2 parts, this movie was deservedly hated.

I'm sure I'll see his version of Ghostbusters at some point, but the trailers were enough to convince me that it wasn't something I wanted to pay to see in the cinema. I'm still a supporter of the idea of there being a new ongoing Ghostbusters franchise for the current generation, but this just didn't look worth seeing to me. Seems odd to say the old film was for the previous generation and this new film is for today's generation - surely a genuinely well-made film could and should appeal to

Lol first of all, the movie validated a lot of the hate. Secondly, wtf is "even though itís a great movie, itís an old movie." Nothing wrong with an old movie, Paul. Certainly a lot better than a new half-hearted movie that relied on a controversial gender swap for success rather than clever writing.

The only idea if you can even call it an idea he has is to use women as leads and no one cares unless he does what he did and used a loved franchise as a gender political statement. Bad move.

I guess I'll never understand this.

What's to understand? That this was a bad movie? That it was trying way too hard to be funny? Ghostbusters should never be straight humor. It should be a clever, creative horror story with funny moments. It's too bad Feig didn't understand THAT. Ghostbusters is a property that contains a lot of room for creativity, but Feig and Co. essentially Force Awakened the thing. THAT was where it lost me. I really don't care who plays the Ghostbusters; do something new with the material.
P.S. I

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed The Force Awakens; I certainly enjoyed it a lot more than the new Ghostbusters. I was going for a quip about how both movies used too many plot points from their respective originals. Poor phrasing I suppose.

If they "Force Awakened it", they would have had the original cast and made it more of a passing the torch type of movie which they didn't

So I'm a sexist if I think a crappy reboot is just that?

I'm Catholic, so I'm only used to getting this kind of guilt jammed down my throat on Sundays.
Someone someday will redo Escape From New York...which is my favorite movie ever. It will get some great CGI that will blow the original out of the water. The acting won't be as good and the writing will be "updated" for modern times and it won't be as good either. I will go and I will die a little on the inside while watching it....whether the lead is a white male or if the lead is a Chinese female

That has nothing to do with my open-mindedness related to gender. It has everything to do with acknowledging how far writing has fallen and how CGI can't replace good acting.

One film too late

It was worse because it was mediocre, if it was bad bad at least it would be redeemed. But it was literally half-hearted.
