Paul Feig's Ghostbusters got one more original to appear in Annie Potts

09.22.2015

They've got one... more.

Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS reboot has landed another original cast member from the 1984 classic to join in on the festivities with Annie Potts making an appearance in the new flick. Potts, who played the Ghostbusters' secretary Janine Melnitz, will be showing up as a hotel clerk in one scene, giving another wink and nod to fans of the first two movies who still get that warm and fuzzy feeling of nostalgia anytime they think back to the old crew.

Potts is just the latest to come aboard and, in a way, lend support for Feig's film, which has been heavily criticized for some as either not being the real Ghostbusters or for its all-female team, which is supposed to somehow be a bad thing in the modern era. Ernie Hudson recently shot a cameo for the film before it wrapped, and we already had knowledge that Bill Murray would be making an entrance as would Dan Aykroyd. There's even word that Slimer will be showing up and getting somewhat of an origin story. It looks as if Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis are the only key figures from Ivan Reitman's films that didn't find a way into this new film.

Hmmm... Did anyone manage to give Slavitza Jovan a call while they were booking these appearances?

Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS will bust some new ghosts next year on July 15.

Just a thought

Twenty years from now you could have an all-female Avengers. You could have She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Stature (Cassie Lang), White Tiger, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Miss America and Blade's daughter make up the team. It probably wouldn't happen because you would probably have at least one male character on the team such as an adult Spider-Man but the fact is that Marvel is creating female characters for the purpose of making its Avengers line ups more diverse (as opposed to just being white males)

You're not allowed to say "white male."

The Collective requires all of its drones to cite its entire gripe list:

"Intolerant bitter clinging hate-mongering war-mongering fear-mongering privileged middle-class micro-aggressing patriarchal straight sexist misogynist racist xenophobic cisgendered hetero-normative homophobic homogeneous hegemonic nativist tea-bagging redneck hillbilly white euro-centric male Zionist Evangelical Christian NeoCon Republican bourgeoisie capitalist colonialist

I don't mind diversity with the superhero films, but yeah, the idea of making an all female avengers cast 10+ years down the road isn't far fetched, but it also needs to make sense. We may get Wasp in Avengers 2, I assume Black Widow and Scarlet Witch will be there, would love to see She-hulk enter the mix and with Netflix Daredevil and Luke Cage, bring em!. Both Avengers may have had majority male leads, but Scarjo was in both Avengers, 2 Ironmans and Captain America 3, so she does count.

She's not some random chick added in for shits and giggles, she holds her own and should. Like GB, I don't mind all female leads, but it's the actors I mind aside from Wiig.
Diversity is great and I will always encourage it, but it needs to make sense. This movie is doing an all female GB for the sake of doing it rather than having the new cast take over for the old. It's being done more out of spite of the fans than with the fans in mind. In all honesty, I wouldn't want an all male cast redone as a remake of GB either. I don't want to see copies of the legends, but a continued franchises of the original universe makes way more sense and still respects the fan base. I really hope this movie proves to be a good one, but like Fantastic Four, they aren't showing much which is making fans like me nervous, and we all know how much the Director of F4 liked his own film!
Diversity is great, an all female cast is great, but ignoring the main stepping stone that lead to this film, being the original films, and maybe Murray is still at fault here, that feels like a failing to me.
We can still make great movies with diverse casts but it needs to feel done for the right reasons and not just because you feel like being "different".

To me these cameos seem like the only way Feig can try to get fans behind this movie. I'm still 50/50 on the movie but hating on it has grown tiresome, time to see some footage now.

Well…

Cameos= 1/2 maybe 1 day of shooting and done! GB3 =Having to Carry the movie, 30 to 60 days of shooting, another 3-5 for reshoots (if there are any) up to 5 days ADR and a commitment to promote the film upon release which includes Talk shows, screenings, Press conferences..etc which each of the remaining cast now in their 60s and with at least one cast member not wanting to invest his time on something he didn't believe in.
The new movie will either stand or fall on it own- a few cameos are

The new movie will either stand or fall on it own- a few cameos are like marvel easter eggs and service the fans only. Also WHO WOULD WANT Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts in a movie about ghosts (I hope they find a way to represent Ramis in there someway as well)!

I do wonder though what would happen to the new all male Ghostbusters that's rumored to star Channing Tatum. If original cast would have cameos in Paul Feig's version, would they have cameo roles in that would be all male Ghostbusters too? Possibly. But at least I still have that 2009 Atari Game as my Ghostbusters 3.

These cameos are pathetic pandering

Honestly. It has me considering avoiding movies by those who are doing these cameos.

So the main cast (for the most part) agree to cameo in this, but don't agree to star in a Ghostbusters 3? Fuck this.

The studio's trying to give the film some clout with the audience no doubt. Sign of confidence or lack there of maybe…?
Either way, agree. To see these cast members willing to come back for a cameo but not a full film is a massive slap in the face.

Bill Murray stopped GB3 from happening. If anything, blame him for that. Why they all agreed to a cameo, I dunno? Maybe they liked what they saw.

How is this different from what they did with Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels, the Mod Squad or 21 Jump Street? None of the original stars of the Mod Squad TV series cameoed in the Mod Squad movie but we did have the stars of Starsky and Hutch and 21 Jump Street appear in their remakes and Jaclyn Smith had an uncredited cameo in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. It has been the usual thing to give the stars of the old TV series cameos in the reboot. Jack Larson (who died just a few days

Jack Larson (who died just a few days ago) played Jimmy Olsen in the Adventures of Superman (1952) and he played Bo the Bartender in Superman Returns (2006).

Anyway, Bill Murray did not agree to Ghostbusters 3 because he didn't like the script. Maybe Paul Feig has a winner here. We'll see.

It would have been awesome for Rick Moranis to pop up in character as Lewis Tully.

I really have nothing against this flick. I hope it's a decent movie and I'm interested to see a trailer. But I could most certainly do without an origin story for Slimer. Either have him show up in the movie or not, but there is no reason I need him explained to me.

I feel for the fans. To see original cast willing to turn up in a reboot but not a new sequel film is disappointing. The studio could have handled this franchise far better than they have by doing at least the first film as a hand over to a new team. That would have avoided so much of the online anger.

That's where I stand. We have a GB Universe and this could have easily been passing the torch or multiple franchises etc, but so far it's 100% removed from continuity that the originals, from what we have read, are nothing more than cameos. I would have loved the 3 pass the torch to these ladies, even though only Wiig I like.
I'm tired of everyone complaining "Because it's women and they are being sexist". Two points
1: Is it then sexist to have an all male cast?

2: I am sure plenty are

1: Is it then sexist to have an all male cast?

2: I am sure plenty are complaining that it's all women, but most fans are not complaining about the all women GB. A LOT of people liked the idea of Emma Stone talking a part in a remake. It's not the "women" that's the problem, it's the actors, for me anyway. Wiig I like. McCarthy not so much. The other 2, to be fair I haven't watched SNL since Chris Farely was alive so I can't comment on those two, but I don't hear good things about them so it naturally worries me.
There are PLENTY of talented women actors out there. People need to stop assuming we want to hate this movie because it's all 4 GB women. It has NOTHING to do with our concerns (See Fantastic Four Reboot). Hell, I would be happy with a mix of men and women, whatever, I don't care so long as the actors (male and female) can pull it off.
Fans keep these things alive. Average movie goers do not even care if a new movie is made. We have San Diego Comic Con for a reason. Fans built it. So it's not unfair to ask for a little respect back considering we help to keep these things alive.
Don't make a fan made only film, it does need mass appeal, but don't just tell us to fuck off and screw the 30+ years you've been a fan.
I hope this movie turns out great. I'll be REALLY happy if I enjoy it, but I am damn right concerned.
