Paul Giamatti confirms he will appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, unsure about the fourth one

10.03.2013

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is out next year, but Sony has already announced plans for a third and fourth movie featuring the web-slinger. Many assume they will be building towards the Sinister Six in the second film, and one of the members of the villainous group could be Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti.

The actor was recently interviewed by Collider while promoting his upcoming film PARKLAND, and obviously Paul Giamatti couldn't reveal too much about Sony's plans involving the supervillain group ("It seems like that kind of thing. They have not told me anything hard and fast about that.") but Giamatti did confirm he signed a multi-picture deal to play Rhino. Paul Giamatti says he will appear in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 as well, but isn't positive about THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 4. In fact, he was surprised release dates were already announced for the sequels.

Paul Giamatti also talked about how he was shocked by the level of interest in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, his involvement in the fourth season of Downton Abbey and if he ever got any residuals from the wine industry after SIDEWAYS in the interview, which you can check out in its entirety below.

At this point it's probably safe to say the Sinister Six are a part of Sony's plans for Spider-Man, and I know many fans have wanted to see Spidey battle the group on the big screen for a long time. One of my complaints with all the Spider-Man films is that it seems like he has never really had that tough of a time fighting the villains. In the comics Spider-Man is always getting the shit kicked out of him by multiple villains. Him overcoming the odds of surviving is one of the reasons why fans love the character, and it looks like Sony is trying to deliver just that with the next films.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 swings into theaters May 2nd, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: In my opinion Doc Ock was the best villain in the Sam Raimi films. Do you think the character will be used in Marc Webb's movies, and if so, who would you like to see play him?

Not impressed

I am not thrilled that Paul Giamatti will be in Amazing Spiderman 3, If you follow the comics Rhino isnt a major character and I think the Filmmakers do not understand that...people want to see our Superheroes face the major Bad villians , I mean jeez if Rhino made a small cameo instead that MIGHT be ok.

Of course he's gonna survive. Spider-man doesn't kill

Not sure how they'll tackle the Sinister Six. IMO, it seems like Norman Osborn/Green Goblin is being setup as the main big bad of this Spidey universe. That being said, shouldn't he be saved as the main and only villain in a Spiderman movie? I just see it as dumbing down the character to have him as just a part of a group of villains (given the way they're building him up). They way I see it, is the Sinister Six should be made up of various villains (Electro, Rhino, and 4 other guys) that

At the end of that film and the inevitable defeat of the S6, Osborn decides to do things himself and becomes the Goblin which leads the audience into Spiderman 4.

As far as Doc Ock, considering we've already seen him on screen, he might have to sit this one out. I think Webb might be trying to get villains that we've never seen on screen before. So this might be a slightly alternate version of the Sinister Six we get on screen, whether that's good or bad, I don't know.

The BIG baddy in this spider-man movie series is Carnage, played by Jim Carrey. He is going to be Cletus Kassidy in the second movie and only shown for a brief moment.

The scarecrow of this series...

Rhino is going to turn into the cameo villain each movie. Just like Scarecrow did in the Nolan Batverse. It isn't a bad thing, Rhino is a joke in the comics and is normally a miniboss in the games. He deserves only to be a cameo in the other movies. I kind of wish Nolans Batverse picked a horrible villain to be the cameo instead of turning one of Batmans deadliest enemies into a joke...

I know, I know I'm nitpicking... but one of my main problems with the comics... cartoons...and movies...of all superheroes...is I could never work out exactly how strong anyone was. You know, you'd see a given hero have a tough time beating one of his main rivals (though he goes on to win)...said rivals then join forces...and said hero seems to find it easier prevailing. Take the Superman and Batman Public Enemies animated movie - they made quick work of the first set of villains that came to

I don't remember if Doc Ock actually had any super powers from the comics...but in the movie...he didn't, yet In Spider-man 2...he takes punches to the face from a Spider powered boy...and didn't get knocked out. Don't even get me started on Superman and his will it or won't it kill him kryptonite shtick. Hey, I said, I know I'm nitpicking.

As long as it's a better written film this time around, I'll be happy. I really truly wanted to enjoy all of the first one, but just couldn't. Some of the scenes were just too cringe worthy and cheesy.

There are far more cringe worthy scenes in Green Lantern but you love that. I'm just saying I thought GL was ok but there's no way it's less cheesy and cringe worthy than TAS. When Jordan's buddy says dude your a superhero, and then doesn't the superhero always get the girl, that physically hurt to watch.

Ok. But I thought Green Lantern fit its tone more than Amazing Spider Man.

Actually, I think that this is very good news. Some people were complaining that this flick seemed like it was getting crowded with characters & I've even heard some say that they thought it was heading in the Spider-Man 3 direction. With Rhino being in part 3, maybe his role in this 1 will just be a small cameo. Or a brief origin story then disappear until the next film. Hell, it could even be that his biggest part is an after credits scene that shows him in the Rhino suit. Even if he does

Even if he does play a significant part in this 1, whose to say that his role in #3 will be big? While I wasn't head over heels for part 1, I definitely liked it better than Spider-Man 1 & 3, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Webb is bringing us with these next installments.

Hmmm

The first one was bad and I don't think the sequels will be better, but I read a lot of spidey comics and I just don't know how he's gonna face all those ppl in a film unless they introduce a character that's gonna help him. I will say the first movie had better chemistry in the leads and I'm blanking on his name but he was a little better as spidey, but everything else sucked.

Gotta agree with topbananadan, it spoils the suspense of whether or not they're gonna kill him off. My guess is Electro will (or appear to) and Rhino will just get locked up.

Hate it when they do this. So we shouldn't expect him to die then

Why would he? If we were told his introduction would be brief, do you really expect them to kill him off when the Sinister Six has been alluded to again and again?

This is generally saying outright he will survive part 2....every situation he's in loses its suspense as you know he's not going to die

which is also why I'm not keen on prequels as you know certain characters will live..just loses tension
