Paul Reubens is the newest actor to join The Smurfs

Apr. 28, 2010by:

Paul Reubens has played many different types of characters: a drug dealer in BLOW, a farting superhero in MYSTERY MEN, a hilarious vampire in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, and of course the most memorable of all, Pee-Wee Herman.

Next up, a smurf. Reubens will be lending his voice to the role of Jokey Smurf in Raja Gosnell's THE SMURFS. Man, that's a lot of Smurf dropping.

Here's the cheery synopsis:

"When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours – in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down."

This will be Reuben's next project after doing live stage productions of THE PEE-WEE HERMAN SHOW. The actor joins Neil Patrick Harris, George Lopez, Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, Sofia Vergara, Hank Azaria, Jonathan Winters, Fred Armisen, Anton Yelchin, and Jayma Mays.

Extra Tidbit: Would anyone else like to see a new PEE-WEE movie?

Thumbs up for the tidbit and the casting (not so much the Smurf's movie),

Double Thumbs up if we get a Cowboy Curtis cameo.

Perfect casting - although I really dont hold high hopes for the movie as a whole (Azaria did bring me closer to being on board though)

He's not Gargamel??

At first I thought he was Gargamel and realized Gargamel is CGI. Nonetheless...Reubens would be a great casting call for Gargamel.

History will repeat itself

The failures of Garfield and Scooby Doo are not enough to stop it unfortunately.

Plus, this is coming from the director of Beverly Hill Chihuahua.

To this day Pee Wee insists he's not a smurf and does not smurf off to young smurfs, and I kind of believe him if you've read the article on Smurf Weekly.

This movie sounds terrible.

CRAPTACULAR!!!

Because Garfield/Scooby doo/Alvin&Chipmunks and Underdog turned out so well. Their putting the SMURFS in our world the BIGGEST clue of how crappy this will be.

While I am weary of this film I think it is great PR is getting back in the biz. Let him do a few small things, put on his stage show and reinvent PeeWee as much as he needs before giving him his much needed big screen return.

I would cream if Tim Burton even just produced the new PW movie.
