Pete from Shaun of the Dead joins Guardians of the Galaxy!

Peter Serafinowicz

Out of all the movies at this year's Comic-Con, the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY panel was the one I was the most interested in reading about and it did not disappoint. It sounds like it's going to be a quirky, fun comic book movie, and the cast just keeps on getting better.

Peter Serafinowicz has announced on his Twitter that he'll be joining GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and that is fan-f*cking-tastic in my opinion:

I used his role in SHAUN OF THE DEAD in the headline because it is probably the one you'd recognize his face from the most. I say this because he's done a ton of voice work, including Darth Maul in STAR WARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE, Archer, The IT Crowd, South Park (Darth Chef) and American Dad. But he isn't just a voice guy: he's a hilarious actor and comedian. Before he was Pete in SHAUN OF THE DEAD he previously teamed up with Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Duane Benzie on Spaced, and he's been on other television shows you might recognize such as Black Books, Look Around You and Little Britain.

Peter Serafinowicz isn't a big name, but he's someone I have a huge soft spot for and that's a feeling I think a lot of fans might have for most of the actors and actresses cast so far for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. It's like director James Gunn knows what familiar face or character actor to cast in his film to make nerds like me start to drool. Speaking of which, I'm hearing rumors (JUST RUMORS mind you) that Christian Slater might be in the running for the voice of Rocket Raccoon. Let that sink in for a moment. Yeah, Gunn knows exactly what he's doing.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close is in theaters August 1st, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Peter Serafinowicz's sister is married to Graham Linehan, who helped create and direct Father Ted, Black Books and The IT Crowd.

1) Only familiar with this guy from Shaun of the Dead, and he was great in it. I am not familiar at all with the Nova Corps, or hero Nova from Marvel Comics. If he's playing a Nova Corpsmen in GOTG, is it possible this guy might be taking on the Nova character for a solo film? Would this guy make a good Richard Rider?

2) Christian Slater as Rocket Raccoon? The more I listen to his voice in my head, I become aware that it is exactly how I envisioned Rocket sounding in the movie. Kind

Great impressions, too

Love this dude -- especially his impressions. His Acting Masterclass series (from The Peter Serafinowicz Show) is pretty damn good/funny. I'm partial to the Michael Caine one, myself. Cheers!

Peeeete?

GOTG just keeps getting better and better with each casting decision. Fuck me, I didn't realize that was him who did the voice of Darth Maul. Take me away to movie jail, folks.
As for Slater? He's alright in my book for the role of Rocket Raccoon. He's not a great actor but this role does suit him. He's not my first choice but he'll suffice. Besides, it would do him good to have his name credited to a major role for a major film besides all of those shitty DTV releases.

Slater was hilarious in CHURCHILL: THE HOLLYWOOD YEARS. It's one of the best underrated comedy I've ever seen.

Serafinowicz is awesome. Guess he's a way bigger name in the UK than over the pond, but he's responsible for some excellent comedies. I suppose a lot of his stuff is quirkily English, but he's a very funny guy.

Christian Slater as Rocket Racoon is actually a pretty solid choice. If that were to become true, I would be perfectly fine with it.

Of all the names associated to the Nova Corps in this movie, sadly still no word on whether Richard Ryder will join the Marvel movie universe. :(
