Peter Jackson says a Guillermo Del Toro Skull Island would be fantastic

Although the job has apparently been offered to Joe Cornish, some think Guillermo Del Toro should direct Legendary's upcoming SKULL ISLAND. While Guillermo Del Toro isn't officially attached to the project, there are a few people who believe he might at least help produce SKULL ISLAND because of his relationship with Legendary.

While speaking at a press conference at the San Diego Comic Con for his THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF FIVE ARMIES, the KING KONG director was asked about his thoughts on SKULL ISLAND, and Guillermo Del Toro possibly directing the film.

I would look forward to it. If Guillermo did King Kong, that would be great. That would be fantastic. I’ll be there on the first day, and will help him with anything he needs. I’ve always wondered, if in my lifetime, whether we’re going to see The Lord of the Rings film remade, or The Hobbit remade. How long will it actually last or survive until someone remakes it? It will be interesting to see. But with Kong, we were the ones who remade it for the third time.

In my opinion, Guillermo Del Toro would do an awesome job with SKULL ISLAND, however I don't think he'll end up directing the film. Del Toro wants to direct a small, black and white film before starting work on PACIFIC RIM 2, and I just don't think he'll have enough time to do SKULL ISLAND as well since it's set to be released in 2016. A Guillermo Del Toro directed SKULL ISLAND sounds cool, but I just don't think it's going to happen.

SKULL ISLAND will be in theaters on November 4, 2016.
