Peter Jackson says he will return to TinTin once The Hobbit is complete

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

For those who enjoyed Steven Spielberg‘s first chapter of a the planned two-part series of TinTin movies, THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN, it appears that director Peter Jackson, who has been slated to direct the follow up since the project was announced, still intends to return uphold his end of the bargain. Jackson told reporters that he intends to return to the project once he’s done with THE HOBBIT trilogy:

“As soon as I’m free of The Hobbit, I’ll be going back into doing Tintin.  It was held up by The Hobbit, but we have every intention of doing another Tintin movie and it’s just waiting on me now. Waiting on me to be done with these Hobbit movies. Pesky Hobbit Movies.”

Jackson was set to jump into the TinTin sequel much earlier, but the plan to extend THE HOBBIT into a trilogy rather the originally planned two-part film made it impossible. With more prep time and potentially more reshoots on the horizon (as is typically the case) for THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN, we likely won’t see Jackson’s TinTin sequel until late 2015 or 2016. Personally, I thought Spielberg’s TinTin was a marvel to look at, but it didn’t hold my interest beyond that, but I know the series has its share of fans (especially internationally).

Jackson’s THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG opens this Friday.
