Peter Jackson produced Mortal Engines casts its leads

02.03.2017

I love Peter Jackson - from DEAD ALIVE to LORD OF THE RINGS - the man is talented as f*ck. Even his misses (like LOVELY BONES and THE HOBBIT) have awesome stuff in them. That is all to say that I'm excited-as-balls about his upcoming film, MORTAL ENGINES, described by Variety as "set thousands of years in the future, Earth’s cities now roam the globe on huge wheels, devouring each other in a struggle over diminishing resources. On one of these massive Traction Cities, Tom Natsworthy has an unexpected encounter with a mysterious young woman from the Outlands, who will change the course of his life forever." And while Jackson is not directing the picture (that duty belongs to long-time VFX artist Christian Rivers), Jackson is co-writing and producing it, so that's enough for me.

And, most importantly, it has cast its two male leads! Robert Sheehan (GEOSTORM) will play the lead role, while Ronan Raftery (FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM) will play his best friend. Won't pretend I know who these people are, but if their casting means it's getting closer to me seeing  literal moving cities fight each other, then I'm game.

But what do you Schmoes think? Anyone read MORTAL ENGINES? If so, do you think these blokes fill out the roles well?

Either way, MORTAL ENGINES is set to rev up December 14th, 2018.

Extra Tidbit: More of a favor, anyone know a good fan-edit of the HOBBIT that's just one movie and cuts out all the non-book stuff? Thanks in advance.

"More of a favor, anyone know a good fan-edit of the HOBBIT that's just one movie and cuts out all the non-book stuff? Thanks in advance" let me educate you, alot of the stuff that isn't in the Hobbit book is in the apendices and other Tolkien Lore and was inserted because it flows well and answers questions that the book didn't. It also gives more middle earth lore that would be unfilmable because some of the stuff is just random bits of information that Tolkien wrote down in the apendices

Did this article get edited since its posting, I don't see any reference to Bad Taste

Yes, the article was edited. After BojacRedleif and I commented, the factual error stating that Jackson is directing the movie was changed to reflect that he is actually co-writing/producing. For some reason, the author also decided to remove his opinion about Bad Taste since we disagreed with him. He also removed his statement that Jackson is probably one of his favorite directors of all time since we criticized that.

It's 100% okay to say Peter Jackson is your favorite director, I am definitely a big fan and even a Hobbit apologist. It was just weird that the poster said that, and then listed off 40% of his movies as being misses.

LOTR was pretty good

Besides that, his films are meh to bad. Maybe this has a chance since he's not directing.

King Kong and The Hobbit were especially bad.

Bad Taste is good and this article is a common miss

Instead of starting every article off talking about yourself and how you personally relate to the story, maybe just do your research and properly report the story to us. Peter Jackson is not directing this movie, according to IMDB. Believe it or not, we clicked on this article to learn correct information about Mortal Engines, not to hear about how Peter Jackson is probably your favorite director of all time even though you think five of his movies are misses. Thanks!

Well for whatever reason I can't edit my incomplete comment with a gross glaring typo...

Peter Jackson is just a writer and producer on this, not the director.

Also, Bad Taste is a miss? Are you even allowed to call someone's first film a miss?
Plus you named 5 films of his as "rare misses", that's almost half his library, and he's your favorite director of all time?
