Petition making the rounds for George Lucas to direct Star Wars: Episode IX

01.08.2016

You can't make everyone happy all the time... and STAR WARS should be living proof of that. It doesn't matter what the saga does at this point; someone is going to bitch that it isn't to their liking.

Make a movie that feels too much like a previous STAR WARS chapter and it's not original enough. Make a film that's too original, and it doesn't quite feel like STAR WARS enough. Use too many new characters, and people want more of their old favorites, but use the old chacters too much and it's all too familiar. And don't even get me started on the people who complain about the movies because they aren't as good as the ones they wrote in their heads...

But I digress...

The point I was trying to make is that often enough STAR WARS don't really know what they want, and the evidence of that is in this wild petition making the rounds asking for George Lucas to be brought back to direct STAR WARS: EPISODE IX.

Yes... that George Lucas...

The one they didn't want touching STAR WARS again after their prequel experiences. The one who several claimed "raped their childhood." The one who was all about selling toys and very little about making movies.

It doesn't matter that Colin Trevorrow already has the job. He's not "their" choice for the gig, and, as a result, the devil they know is better than the devil they don't. Look... It's not as if this is going to happen. George Lucas and Disney are not on the best of terms right now, and The Mouse isn't going to kowtow to a vocal minority of fans who think they know best. But it just goes to show the power that some people think they have to change things of this nature... which is really far from reality.

Some people think George Lucas should direct another Star Wars movie. In other news, some people take way too many drugs.

I seriously doubt Disney would ever consider that. For one, Lucas would not play ball with Disney at all. Secondly, there's literally dozens of directors out there that would have something to offer this franchise. Whether or not Disney gives them any reigns at all, some fresh blood would be great to see. Consider this a petition started by the hardest of hardcore basement dwellers.

1. He is not a good director.
2. He didn't get the Prequels right.
3. He said he would not read critisism (which could lead to better work)
4. He is not a good director.

I say let him direct one of the side movies. He might even be up for that. But they should still replace CT on Episode IX. Replace him with Neil Blomkamp. Or give Neil a side movie. Sorry, I really want to see a Blomkamp directed Star Wars movie...

Have we forgotten how genuinely terrible the prequels are, if nothing else on a purely technical level?

Maybe we could get Michael Bay. Or Brett Ratner. Hell, Uwe Boll isnt doing much these days...

Gimme a Hell! Gimme a NO!

Whoever put together this petition is beyond delusional. George Lucas would only take the gig if he had total creative control, and Disney would rather mothball the project than let that happen (Jar-Jar Binks? Rotta the Hutt?).

Why did Disney ditch all of Lucas' plot points? Short answer: because they were crap.

HAHAHA, IDIOT. You accuse that guy of bad grammar and yet you can't correctly identify the part that was bad grammar. He left out a word and that makes him a moron? It's not like he typed everything out with bad spelling and punctuation. He left out a freaking word, A MISTAKE. Mistakes don't make people idiots.

However, you made yourself look like an idiot by not having the mental capacity to fill in the missing word. Fuck off.

Would definitely not like him directing but wouldn't mind him participating in constructing the story. I would love to see his plans he had for episodes 7-9 before Disney bought it.

Prequel Fans...

That weird subset of Star Wars Fans that love the Prequel movies and think JJ's nostalgia for the original trilogy was an insult to George.

Assuming you know what a donkey punch is, that might be a lot of poking and punching. Who would be performing this? You must intend to do it yourself? Enjoy!

A really good idea

I absolutely loathe what Colin did with Jurassic World. I would rather see George Lucas make it in a heartbeat.

I think Star Wars is a movie that could use Mission: Impossible treatment. Different director for each film and we have five awesome M:I movies. Star Wars could use the same method.

I'm not going to sign the petition. But I will say I liked Revenge of the Sith more than Force Awakens. But both were better than Episodes 1 or 2. Anyway, George isn't going to want to direct a Star Wars film he didn't create, so this is a non-issue.

Revenge of the sith was over saturated with cgi, has terrible dialogue, and wooden performances but I love the shit out of it.

It ain't gonna happen, there'd be a fan outcry if he was going to do it.
Maybe they should do an anthology type film with 3-4 different directors doing stories (maybe even non canon stories) and let George do one.

Would not work even if we wanted it too.

I don't think lucks would be able comprehend the new template JJ built. Nothing about episode seven is even close to what he envisioned, that alone has probably got him bitter. so what would he do with a plot direction he doesn't like?

It would certainly be an improvement from TFA. I don't know that I'd want him directing though.

I would like to see his outlines fleshed out by different writers, and I would like to see him back in the art director's seat though.

As much

As much as I love Lucas for bringing us Star Wars, I feel like he is washed up in the franchise. Maybe for one of the spin offs but definitely not part of this new trilogy.

I didn't like the idea of Trevorrow at the time of the announcement, but after seeing TFA, I'm on board. JJ left a lot of pieces in the air that Johnson will have to tackle and Trevorrow will have to tie up the additional pieces that Johnson sets up. So episode IX will need more of that "capable yes man" kind of director to wrap things up, not someone who wants to create a whole new vision in the final chapter of a trilogy.

I mean I am not a fan of Colin.

And I certainly think he's gonna drop out at some point in the distant future (probably due to Jurassic World 2) but C'MON this is as dumb as the mongoloids that wanted Johnathan Frakes to direct Star Trek 3.

Neither Treverrow nor Lucas...

Should direct it. Spielberg should finally do one. It'll all be done within the Guild, so he could step up. No excuses, like with Jedi.

George Lucas is not a director

He's always been a producer, creator. With the exception of American Graffiti and the original Star Wars, he's never directed anything worthwhile. He was smart enough to let more talented directors take over Empire and Return. One of the biggest reasons Indiana Jones is so loved is because of Spielberg's direction. Do we really want a repeat of the prequels?

Having said that, I'll admit I'm not excited that the Jurassic World director is taking on Episode 9. I don't care how much money that

Having said that, I'll admit I'm not excited that the Jurassic World director is taking on Episode 9. I don't care how much money that movie made, it was pretty horrible. But at least Episode 9 is being written by Rian, and I'm a fan of his writing.

His selection feels like the one real potentially huge mistake for Disney. It could be that they really do only care about money and simply looked at the amount Jurassic World made. It wasn't just not that great a film, it was also sort of poorly directed. I wouldn't really care If they were giving him one of the spin offs but the last third of trilogy is really questionable.

That being said they couldn't have picked a better or more intriguing choice for number IIX.

Having Lucas direct Episode IX is a sure good way to ruin it all. Let's all hope he doesn't get selected. If he does get selected hope he dies of natural causes before starting it.
