Piranha 3D and Sorority Row writer scribing To Catch a Thief remake

Out of all the reboots flying around Hollywood these days, I am surprised we haven’t seen more Hitchcock revamps. Yeah, we had Gus Van Sant’s PSYCHO and DISTURBIA which was a modified REAR WINDOW, but the man has a whole catalog to recycle. That’s Hollywood GOLD Jerry!

Well one of his films IS now being remade, and it’s by people who have no business doing so. TO CATCH A THIEF is getting a reboot, and it’s been written by Josh Stolberg (PIRANHA 3D, SORORITY ROW, GOOD LUCK CHUCK) and will be produced by Neil Moritz (FAST AND FURIOUS, BATTLE LA, THE BOUNTY HUNTER). Oh boy. So what exactly is in store for the new version? Stolberg explains in an interview with Moviehole:

“I wrote, with Bobby [Florsheim], a remake of ‘To Catch a Thief’ for Paramount. Neal Moritz is producing, and it’s exciting because it’s one of my favorite Hitchcock movies and it was fun to come at it from a different angle – make it a little bit more modern and ‘gadgety.’ It’s the first script that I’ve ever written that [encompasses] a lot of heists and action sequences and.. it was a blast!” he said. “I’m really excited. We just turned in the script to the studio a couple of months ago and they’re working on casting now. It takes place in Santarini…it’s a travelogue of the most amazing places on Earth…it’s gonna be a fun, fun ride I think.”

More “gadgety” huh? Sigh.

The original starred Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, but something tells me we won’t have quite the same caliber of cast in this go-round.
