Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales official synopsis revealed

02.17.2015

pirates 5

It’s the official news you have all been waiting for! Well, maybe just a select few. As news items about the fifth PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN trickled in over the last few months it was clear a lot of us were less than optimistic. I wouldn’t blame anyone either, the franchise seemed to lose its footing a while back, and so the prospect of another big budget nautical nightmare was less than appealing. But here we are with production now underway in Queesnland, Australia on PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES.

Disney has officially unveiled the official synopsis:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him.  Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

As mentioned above, , Javier Bardem will play the film’s villain and he’s joined in the cast by some rising YA movie stars such as Kaya Scodelario (THE MAZE RUNNER), Brenton Thwaites (THE GIVER), and Golshifteh Farahani (THE PATIENCE STONE), with Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R. McNally, and Stephen Graham returning to their roles as Barbossa, Gibbs, and Scrum respectively. This will be the first film in the series with a new writer as Jeff Nathanson (INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN) replaces Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio.

I’m not excited right now but with all this time away from the waters you can only hope they used it to tighten up a coherent story and practise a little resistance when it comes to Depp screen time. There wasn't a release date mentioned in the news, so the previous date of July 7, 2017 is what we’re sticking with, but don’t be surprised if we get it sooner as it sounds like they are going full steam ahead now (thank MORTDECAI for that).

Are you ready for more Jack Sparrow?

We miss you JD.

yeah, i wouldn't be surprised if the release date was moved up a year or so. as it stands now that's 2,5 years away which seems like an awful long time considering they've already started shooting. on the other hand, summer season 2016 is already pretty crowded with jungle book, huntsman, captain america 3, neighbors 2, alice 2, x-men apocalypse, uncharted, turtles 2, ID4ever, tarzan, ice age 5, ghostbusters, king arthur reboot, finding dory, star trek 3, bourne sequel and suicide squad, man,

I enjoyed all of them. Looking forward to the next. Wonder if Penelope Cruz's character will return to get her payback again.

I might get some hate for it but I love the Character. Sure the last movie sucked, the 3rd wasn't great, the 2nd was entertaining, and the first was amazing. So yeah its been on the downward slope since the first. But here's to hoping it can return to at least the entertaining level of the 2nd.

I've posted this elsewhere but; I, for one, quite enjoy the nautcial legends that the Pirate films offer us. From ships with a "skeleton crew" and black sails, to lost aztec treasure, to Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman, The Kraken, the flat end of the world, caribbean voodoo sea gods, limbo, chinese pirates, Blackbeard, zombies, mermaids and the fountain of youth.

I loved the first one, and shamelessly enjoy the 2 inferior sequels. Heck I even enjoy moments of the fourth although I can't

I'm concerned that we've covered "ghost pirates" already with the series, but they've won my interest with the Trident of Poseiden, might we run across the god of the sea himself?

My expecations are low, but I'll watch anything with Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa.

I like these movies. I will keep watching as long as they make them. Plus Bardem as a villain pirate wanting to kill everyone sounds great . Like No seas for Old pirate men.

It can't be worse than 4, the only PotC movie I really don't like. 1 was amazing, 2 and 3 were good popcorn fun. First things first, The Black Pearl MUST return. They basically took the Millennium Falcon out of the last movie. The hero needs his ship!

Unfortunately this series has followed those like Terminator or Die Hard. I love the first couple films, but with each new entry it just drops in quality and feels like a cash grab. I like Bardem, but his villain sounds exactly like Barbossa, Davy Jones, and Blackbeard from the previous films. And it appears they're forcing another young couple love story into the film. If I learned anything from the 4th film, it's that Bloom and Knightly actually really made those first 3 films better than I

Hmmm

As others have said, the first film is a bonafide classic, but it's definitely been a case of diminishing returns for the series. I enjoyed the second, but found the third to be virtually unwatchable, and the fourth utterly forgettable. Hopefully they right the ship (no pun intended), and bring it closer to the quality of the first film. I thought though, that Orlando Bloom was in the cast? He's grown as an actor, and would love to see him return to the role of Will Turner with a bit more

I was really excited about this...

The idea of the trident is kind of throwing me off. Seems a bit too, I don't know, over the top? I really think they could bring this franchise back to being a hit again if they would learn to take the "less is more" route with Sparrow. Keep him in the franchise, after all he is the heart of it. Just make him more of a side character, like in the first film.

It really depends. If they just play it as a straight McGuffin, it'll probably be dreadful. But of they have Jack acquire it earlier in the film and it's defective and causes him more trouble than help, it could end up being pretry fun

Why?

Loved the first three movies. The fourth is forgettable. But uh, if this trident gives him total control over the seas, why wouldn't he have been after this since the first movie? It would have solved all of the problems in all of the movies.

The 1st was great.. the 2nd and 3rd were convoluted... the 4th was kind of just there... BUT i will still be anticipating this new chapter as if nothing else, all 4 have been fun movies!

I actually really liked Pirates 2 and 3. They were ambitious, exciting, clever, and a lot smarter than people give them credit for. (thats not to say they have faults that i wont admit, such as mini-Jacks)

Pirates 4 on the other hand... It had an incomprehension plot, incredibly dull characters, and Jack Sparrow has turned into a cartoon of himself. And if dumbing down Jack Sparrow werent bad enough, they had 2 of him. All Penelope Cruz was was a female version of Sparrow. One was annoying,

I feel like 5 will follow in the footsteps of 4, as oppose to finding it's own groove and originality. I'll keep an open mind as more information is made public, but this is one film i'm not looking forward to.

I still wanna see my pirate version of Seven Samurai. An island is being harassed by an army of pirates, so they hire 7 other pirates (including Jack Sparrow) to defend the island. Keep the mystical down to a minimum like the first movie did.

That does sounds amazing. This needs more upvotes. They could also have Orlando Bloom come back as a cameo aka the secret weapon that Jack Sparrow uses.

The first PoTC was great, but its slowly gotten worse with every movie. This one doesn't seem too different from that synopsis. Even Depp's Sparrow, who was so fresh and funny originally, now just seems kind of forced and tiresome. Hoping for the best with this, expecting the worst.
