Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales pushed to 2016

Sep. 10, 2013by: Niki Stephens

Next year is jam packed with everything from Terminators to Superheroes so I guess that means there's no room for Pirates.

Disney has pushed PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TELLS to Summer of 2016. This is definitely a good thing for production since right now there's only an advanced outline of a script from Jeff Nathanson; plus it gives Joachim Roenning and Espen Sandberg (KON-TIKI) more time conceptualizing on a big budget film. Originally they wanted to jump on production in February which would be a bit of a crunch.

Conclusion? They didn't think it was worth rushing. After four installments, the last thing you want to do is rush.

Disney production president Sean Bailey said this about the move, Like audiences around the globe, we have high expectations for Jack Sparrows next adventure and we want to have all the right elements in place. Were not there yet and we want to make sure this project is everything these wonderful characters and of course the fans deserve.

This is being pushed because of the Lone Ranger flop. Depps last few movies have all been flops. I'd be surprised if a new Pirates movie ever happens.

Love the franchise.

Damn. I was hoping to see this in 2015, which is already building up to me arguably the biggest year in blockbuster history. Avengers 2, Superman vs Batman, Star Wars 7, Jurassic World. I'm not sure why people are so against this franchise. I think it's pretty entertaining and Johnny Depp is awesome as Jack Sparrow. Plus I always remember that it's geared towards kids so in that light, the movies are pretty solid.

Can't blame them at all. If 2013 was any indication, too many blockbusters in one year can be a bad thing.

You're right, considering this summer made more money than any summer ever.

Just to correct some of the inaccuracies of this report

First, Pirates has been pushed back from Summer 2015 to Summer 2016--not Summer 2014 to Summer 2016. Second, Terminator isn't coming out until Summer 2015, not next year. Finally, they didn't want to release it in 2015 because they would have had to start production in February to make the 2015 deadline and the movie still doesn't have an official script so they didn't want a repeat of Lone Ranger with a film going way over budget.

Can we stop?

I mean, the first movie was fun. The sequels were terrible.

?

Im confused. If 2014 is too busy which the article states then why is it being pushed to 2016? Wouldn't 2015 be the next choice?

Although either way I don't really care about another Pirate movie

I, for 1, am glad that it got pushed to 2016. Maybe when 2015 gets here they'll push it to 2017 or 2020. Or maybe we'll get real lucky & they forget that they wanted to make a 5th installment at all. I liked part 1. Thought parts 2 & 3 sucked because they kept with the Turner/ Swan storyline. I didn't hate part 4. I thought that it was better than 2 & 3 combined. I would have rather seen On Stranger Tides as the sequel to Curse of the Black Pearl. Modified to fit the story of course. Still, I

Still, I really wish they wouldn't do a 5th part & just effing stop beating that dead horse. I actually wish that they'd not push the date, rush to get it done then put out the biggest piece of crap ever & then maybe they'd stop making them.

Push it till 2050, then reboot it with a new actor, with Depp as a cyborg pirate. Sorry I never enjoyed this franchise, just the first one was OK (and just OK, not great).

"Like audiences around the globe, we have high expectations for Jack Sparrows next adventure"... SAY WHAT NOW? High expectations? This is a joke, right?

Oh come on, does anyone really want another Pirates movie? Seriously Disney, you've got Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars so I'm sure you won't be hurting for money so much you have to force another entry into this series. Put that money towards a more worth sequel, like Tron 3.
