Brad Pitt has signed on to star in the upcoming adventure drama THE LOST CITY OF Z for Paramount and director James Gray (WE OWN THE NIGHT). The film is based on an upcoming book by David Grann and follows a British soldier named Percy Fawcett who left high society to explore the Amazon for an ancient civilization he believed existed called “Z.” Fawcett and his son head off into the jungle never to be seen again. Gray has the Joaquin Phoenix/Gwyneth Paltrow flick TWO LOVERS on the way next year and LOST CITY would be a big step up for the director who has been known mostly for dramas starring frequent collaborate Phoenix (too bad he quit acting otherwise Gray might be able to find a role for him in this film). Pitt is taking a break from filming on Quentin Tarantino’s INGLORIOUS BASTARDS to promote THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, which hits theaters on Christmas Day.
