Pixar being brought in to help consult on Jason Segel’s Muppet movie

No cause for alarm here. Usually when outside sources are brought in to consult on an existing project, the implication is that something is wrong with it, but in this case, you can hardly blame Disney for having Pixar come give input for the Muppets movie. Even Kobe Bryant would probably listen to advice from Michael Jordan.

The project, which is starring and being written by surprisingly large fan of puppets, Jason Segel, is asking the Pixar big guns, John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, Michael Arndt, Bob Peterson and president Ed Catmull to give their input as to how to bring the Muppets back in a big way.

The story comes from THR, who is quick to point out that Pixar now has had an unprecedented ELEVEN hits in a row, with no signs of slowing down just yet. If the Muppets could even steal a bit of that magic, they would be well on their way to a hit.

This project is interesting because well, everyone likes the Muppets, yet they’ve never been exactly a dominating force at the box office, despite how familiar most people are with the characters. But kids today probably don’t really know the Muppets as well as those from my generation do, and I’ll be curious if there’s a sort of “makeover” that goes along with this film to re-introduce the gang.
