Pixar's next is...

I first heard rumors about Pixar's next film about two weeks ago when the rumors about Disney/Pixar taking over JOHN CARTER OF MARS began to materialize. D/P wanted MARS as a project for Andrew Stanton (FINDING NEMO) to direct but there was concern that Stanton wouldn't be done with the next Pixar film until 2008, pushing back MARS considerably. I did some research to see what I could find out about this 2008 Pixar film but was able to find nothing else other than a mysterious name, WALL-E. Yesterday, Pixar announced in a letter to shareholders that WALL-E, directed by Andrew Stanton, will indeed be their next film after RATATOUILLE and that the film will follow a young robot looking for love and a home in outer space (at the above right is Wall-E himself). WALL-E will hit theaters on June 27, 2008. Pixar's 2009 film is expected to be TOY STORY 3 but that has yet to be confirmed by the studio. The first teaser for WALL-E will be attached to RATATOUILLE when it hits theaters this June.

Frankly, I have doubts regarding Stanton's ability to successfuly handle something as grim as MARS. The darkest thing he's done so far is The Incredibles, and even that was pretty light.

Not untill 2008?! Boo-erns! This actually sounds good whereas RATATOUILLE looks like it's been done 4 times before and I just watched the latest version of it called Flushed Away.

the john carter project sounds like it will be bad ass. ratatouille looks pretty cool too, but WALL-E looks a little strange to be a featured character unless it was a pixar short.

"as many others are starting to notice...please find a new formula besides an animal or object acting human, finding its purpose and living happy ever after. Lets see a full on action movie or something."

Ever hear of The Incredibles?

Hmmm

I dunno...Pixar has rocked me with 90% of their work, but "CARS" really let me down. I'm not sure why, but I think (honestly) it's because they animated mouths into things that don't have mouths.

Toys? No [link]
Monsters? Ditto
Fish? Ditto

Cars? Nope...Cars don't have eyes and mouths. Just seemed pretty stupid to me. So does a robot with puppy dog eyes.

Cool character design. My ticket has already been purchased.

And when I was visiting Pixar in October I asked everyone (including the janitor) about Toy Story 3. They all just smiled and said they couldn't talk about upcoming projects. But...smiling...I think it's happening.

I LIKE THE ROBOT!

Cool-looking robot! This might be a kids` movie I actually won`t mind having to watch over and over again.

Awesome news. At this point, Pixar could do a movie about belly-button lint and I'd be there. They can do no wrong.
