New poster and stills from JFK assassination drama Parkland, starring Paul Giamatti and Marcia Gay Harden

Aug. 12, 2013by:

PARKLAND is a retelling of the JFK assassination as told by the many affected by it on the day it transpired, including doctors, nurses, cameramen, F.B.I. and Secret Service agents, and the Vice President who would take control of the nation after that fateful day. Directed by first-timer Peter Landesman with an all-star cast including Paul Giamatti, Marcia Gay Harden, Billy Bob Thornton, Zac Efron, Jackie Earle Haley, Tom Welling, Gil Bellows, James Badge Dale, Mark Duplass, Jacki Weaver, Rory Cochrane, Ron Livingston, and Colin Hanks, the film follows these characters in real-time as the event transpires. Today, we have our first look at the poster, as well as six stills from the film.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

A recounting of the chaotic events that occurred at Dallas' Parkland Hospital on the day U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.

"This is a movie about the ground truth from the ground level," says Landesman. "What surprised me was the power and poignancy of those who survived that day and the three that followed -- the heroism, the instincts and the pathos of those swept up in this tsunami. This is an event that happened to individuals." Seems like this will be more of a moment-by-moment character piece about the individuals involved in the assassination, rather than a conspiracy pic, but that's still certainly possible as well. Still, if it's the former, then it could be a refreshing change of pace for the "JFK genre," especially with such a varied and strong cast.

PARKLAND will debut at TIFF next month and hits theaters on September 20, 2013.

lost me at...

Efron as a surgeon... to be fair though, he could be a spitting image for a real person... but still, doesn't look right. the actor playing Oswald does though

He's playing a 2nd year resident who was indeed in his 20s.

Tidbit

Not sure if it's Arkin or someone else I would equate him to. But I did a double-take on Efron, thinking I was looking at Karl Urban...

The film Bobby took a similar approach in 2006. The plot followed people at the Ambassador Hotel the day that Bobby Kennedy died. Perhaps, the 2006 movie inspired the Parkland film-makers. Perhaps, it did not.

I support a film that examines the effects of the JFK assassination on JFK's fellow Americans living at that time. As anyone notices, the Baby Boomers and Greatest Generation will never forget that day.

Tom Hanks never disappoints, even when he's behind the camera

Looks like it will be a really good film. 2 things are surprising though:
1-It comes out in September and we still have no trailer? WTF?
2-Zac Efron gets top billing on the poster over some serious talent. Efron's been pretty good lately, but top billing in a film like this? I'm unsure about that.

Trailer comes next Monday. And the billing is actually alphabetical with the only exception of Paul Giamatti getting the "and" billing at the end. In the billing of the full principal cast of 12 actors, Efron is actually second after James Badge Dale but in the "shortened" version, Efron just happens to be first. That said, from what I know, Efron is not "the" lead but he does have one of the key roles in the ensemble.

Bullshit masquerading as reality

Most folks have known for a while that this film is based on BS. For one thing literally NONE of the doctor's at Parkland hospitol that day in1963 conformed to the lone gunman theory. All of them said the fatal head shot was an entrance wound from the front and not from behind which is where Oswald was supposedly firing from. And from the looks of the picture of the actor playing Abraham Zapruder(the man who filmed the infamous 8mm home movie of the assassination),the director feels no need to

I hope people aren't brainwashed by the bullshit in this film. It's nonsense and I'm disappointed in Hanks, Thornton, and everyone else involved. Some of them filmmakers I have a lot of respect for but now they leave me shaking my head in bewilderment. You have to be a complete moron to believe Oswald killed Kennedy. And while I'm aware that is not the focus of the film, at the same time, it is as it's basing it on lies already is evident and I don't have to even see it to know that.

Wow

Absolutely can't believe Efron got top billing over Giamatti, or any of the actors, unless he really is the star of the film. However, all the information given seems like each actor will have about the same screentime, and I'm not hating on Efron (he can act and I think he has potential to be a Ryan gosling or JGL in time) but it seems like they put his name first to draw in some of his Disney fans, and this clearly isn't a movie made for their demographic, but it is for the other actors,
