Strike Back below!

Movie fans responded with furor (among a surprising degree of acceptance) to the recent announcement that John Carpenter's sci-fi classic ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK was getting remade with 300 star Gerard Butler wearing the patch.

But is it actually being planned as a straight-up remake? Not necessarily, says the guy who actually created the surly monocular merc. Daniel Robert Epstein (aka DRE) over at my favorite tattooed-slut site Suicide Girls chatted with "cash cowboy" Carpenter, who had this to say on the topic of New Line's criminal-filled Manhattan prison: "I don’t know that it’s a remake. I think it’s a lot about Snake before he gets to New York."

Hmmm... interesting. Does this mean the script (from BLACK HAWK DOWN writer Ken Nolan) will cast light on the once-shadowy past of Plissken, thereby possibly shattering the character's mystique? Although considering the new ESCAPE will be produced by crap craftsman Neal Moritz (XXX, TORQUE), we probably shouldn't expect any significant complexity.

Also, in case any fans question Carpenter's mercenary moviemaking mentality for, well, most of his career, he succinctly describes his interest in the ESCAPE remake: "My other main involvement in this project is to extend my hand and have a check placed in it."

Extra Tidbit: About half of Carpenter's feature films have been remade or were remakes themselves.

Carpenter is a bit a ahead of his time. The reason his films are often remade is that they can be easily upgraded. I would have to admit, I've never seen any of the remakes, but I have yet to be disappointed by a Carpenter film.

hmmm..
A prequel I can deal with. A straight up remake is unnecessary.

Pussy
Every, and I mean to promise you EVERY time you put that pussy's face up there defiling Snake's patch, I'm gonna remind everyone of what a sissyboy, curly haired little shirley temple pussy he is compared to the real Snake.

Selling out is only selling out if you pretend you're not about the money. Carpenter made one of my five favorite film (Big trouble in little China), my favorite sci fi horror (The Thing), and my favorite slasher (Halloween). I figure if he is comfortable enough with himself as an artist to let others use his material even for money then let it be.

I hate Everything that John Carpenter wrote. I still wonder till this day how he managed to even one movie made in the first place.

well..

i recently rewatched Escape from NY and one thing i'd love to know more about is Snake's background -- which is why i don't mind this. remake or whatever, it's a film - it can stand on its own if its good..stop your bitchin' until you see what it's like..then you can complain

why
Why does Hollywood kill memories? It's like everytime they make a good movie down there someone says "cant have this!" and make a shitty [link] to ruin the good movie. Cmon Carpenter, make Escape from Earth, and make it good.

You gotta respect Carpenter's honesty when it comes to selling out. It's easy money.
