Prepare for Oblivion this Friday with a 20 minute behind the scenes video featuring brand new footage

04.15.2013

I am excited for OBLIVION to open this Friday, mostly because this will be the unofficial kick-off to the summer movie season. After OBLIVION, we are just a few weeks away from IRON MAN 3 and then STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. While those other two films are certified blockbusters, OBLIVION is a harder sell. Sure it stars Tom Cruise, but it is also a very mysterious film without a clear plot. For me, I was sold on the first trailer as well as the involvement from director Joseph Kosinski, but we have seen many unique scifi projects flounder in the past.

This extensive featurette entitled THE WORLD OF OBLIVION is twenty minutes of interviews with cast and crew alongside some all new footage from the movie. From what you can see here, OBLIVION is an action movie with a thinking man's screenplay. Kosinski looks to have taken the approach of telling a visually stunning movie but going that extra mile to make sure that there is something deeper at the core of the film.

Check out the feature below.

And here is a plot summary in case you forgot:

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

OBLIVION starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau opens on Friday, April 19th.
