Producer Simon Kinberg says that Elysium is not necessarily an alien movie

4 years agoby:

Any little details regarding Neill Blomkampís ELYSIUM that I can get my hands on I will report. Except for anything too spoilery because I would like to be shrouded in some sort of mystery. Sometimes the internet gods will it to be so, then in turn I have to WARN you of anything that might possibly ruin your movie going experience. Today, thatís not happening. Frankly due to the fact that the film is still for the most part a big fat question mark.

Nothing is revealed too much here by ELYSIUMís producer, Simon Kinberg. While discussing X-MEN: FIRST CLASS another film he produced on, the team at io9 get what few details they can out of him. Basically he just remarks on how talented Blomkamp is and how unique the film is going to be. Kinberg also says that ELYSIUM is ďnot necessarily an alien movieĒ. Read what he did talk about below.

"io9: Youíre also working on Neill Blomkampís next picture Elysium, how is this going to be different from all the other alien pictures that came out after District 9?

Kinberg: I canít tell you about the content of Elysium but I can tell you, it wonít really beÖ itís a very different movie than anything youíve ever seen before. Itís not necessarily an alien movie. He set himself up, because [District 9] was one of the greatest first films any directorís ever made. Iím hoping that this movie has an opportunity to be even better. He was very young when he directed that movie, he was like 26 or 27. Heís only 31 now. Heís learned as a filmmaker, heís evolved as a filmmaker. Visually, stylistically itís actually very different than District 9.

io9: How so?

Kinberg: I literally will be murdered in my sleep if I tell you too much more. Itís a unique movie. Itís unlike anything Iíve ever seen before. And I will say, where I would be daunted because of District 9 being this masterpiece Neill is so talented as a writer and as a director that Iím kind of fearless going into this movie. I just think the guy is special.

io9: One of the big themes in District 9 was second class citizens and other social issues. What are the big social issues what are the big themes in this picture?

Kinberg: I canít tell you what the big themes are, but I can tell you that there are big themes. Heís someone whoís really interested in the world. Heís not a filmmaker whoís only interested in other movies. Heís somebody whoís interested in the politics of the world, the reality of the world. Whatever kind of movie he makes in whatever genre, itís never simply going to be a synthetic movie about the movies he liked growing up. Itís always going to be about something bigger, and this movie is too.

Really hope that guy isnít murdered in his sleep. I mean seriously, if he breaks the Blomkamp code of silence then heís more likely to abducted by aliens.

Thanks for the answers

So this is an interview telling us nothing. What I got from it is that it's going to be a BIG movie. Guess it's a slow day.
