Producers say "nothing is sacred" when it comes to the Sinister Six line-up

Apr. 15, 2014by:

Ever since the announcement that Sony is developing both a VENOM and SINISTER SIX movie, we have been trying to determine who will comprise the line-up of the villainous collective. The comic iterations of the Sinister Six have traditionally contained villains we have yet to see on the big screen while THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 has teased well more than a half-dozen potential candidates. So, the question is will be be seeing some new villains appearing in the third entry in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN franchise or could some characters be debuting in the spin-off?

Producer Matt Tolmach told IGN that we should not necessarily look to the pages of Marvel Comics to try and determine that answer.

"Nothing is sacred. I mean its going to be the best Six that you can imagine, but its going to make sense in the world that were building."

So far, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is due to debut Electro, Green Goblin, and Rhino. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 trailer also teased Vulture and Doctor Octopus which producer Avi Arad was quick to add a disclaimer to.

"When you translate comic to film the word 'classic' means the first fifty issues. Because after that we all made changes; changes that had to do with science-fiction turning into science. I think just the need to move this world forward. So, of course we'll make adaptations about these guys and what was their motivations because many of them have multiple motivations. It depends, is it ultimate Spider-Man? Is it Spider-Man? Is it some three-piece issue that takes them to space? We have a bigger responsibility to represent the character of the villain as it was conceived, because that way it will survive the test of time."

We also need to consider the fact that Venom is getting his own film and has yet to be introduced, so he could easily be a member of the SINISTER SIX movie before branching off on his own. Not to mention Rhys Ifans' Lizard is still alive after the events of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.

Personally, I am holding out hope that we get Kraven the Hunter in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 or even a tease in this second film. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hits theaters May 2, 2014.

Which is coming first?

If the Sinister Six movie comes first, then obviously Venom is part of it and becomes the "hero" that stops them. Since Spidey isn't in the SS movie, you simply replace him (ultimately) with Venom and then save Carnage for the Venom solo movie.

wow

That is pretty much the closest they can get to saying "fuck you" to the fans without actually saying it. I mean, I get that even the comics themselves aren't all that consistent so it's hard to really pin down a particular cannon to expect them to be faithful to, but to say "Nothing is sacred," and that we shouldn't necessarily be looking to the comics for clues is basically like saying "We're going to do whatever the fuck we want with these franchises, and there isn't fuck all you can do

Don't get me wrong, I understand that they're fairly confident that these movies are going to make money regardless of what they do, but to take such a hard line aggressive "You'll take what we give you" stance with their target demographic is just poor form. I get that maybe they're getting tired of the had nosed fanboy bitching on the internet about every decision they make, but making statements meant to antagonize that are only going to intensify resentment is probably not the best way to go with that.

Too much is going on. Just give Spidey back to Marvel and let them do glorious things with him. Sony, you are doing way too much and if it fails what then?

Well I guess I'll say something positive

I for one like this idea of villains uniting only to slowly dissolve because of conflicting motives and personalities.

Protip: when trying to appeal to comic book fans, do not use the phrase "nothing is sacred" in any context.

This is just utterly stupid.....

Seriously.....they can't find a decent villain for him to battle (even if it's set up over the course of a film or two)? The only place for this to go is for him to fight 6 bad guys at once? This will be a complete cluster$%&#.

The idea that they'd be trying to make a Dr Octopus/Green Goblin/Vulture movie outside of Spider-Man is borderline hysterical. Why couldn't they just wait a decade before they walked over the corpse of the old one?

This is so fucking stupid.

Sooooo stupid. I don't care how noble their thoughts behind this are. Unless you kill off Spider-man, which I have propositioned in other posts, this will not work.
