New-ish international Prometheus poster gives better head

Jan. 23, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

If anything this is more or less the same poster we've seen before, but now with greater illumination for the giant head that has become main mystery image for the flim.  As you well know marketing has been so illusive as to reveal next-to-nothing about the film, so for my starved curiosity anything that is new even in the slightest holds immense fascination for me.

If my Romance-language-deductive-skills are in any way close to the mark this poster comes from Italy, though I could of course very well be wrong and apologize in advance if I am.

Here's a plot recap, because re-typing and re-reading these words makes me excited and giddy every time: "Ridley Scott, the director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With innovative Prometheus creates a mythology in which a team of explorers discovered a clue to the origin and linked to the appearance of mankind on Earth that will lead you on an exciting journey into the darkest depths of the universe. There will conduct a frightening battle to save the future of the human race."

Extra Tidbit: Do you think Ridley Scott has obscured the film too much, or is the measured revelation of plot and images exactly the way you would have wished?

I'm getting REALLY sick of film directors offering ominously vague quotes about their upcoming projects, refusing to define the film's vision, etc. like Nolan does when, in fact, the concepts are way more straightforward than anything they trump it up to be. I think this is going to be the same case; It's an Aliens prequel that will address the Space Jockey, the downed craft, etc. but Scott is taking a cue from Nolan and just denying in the most thinly veiled of ways.

you're right, usually it is a lot more straightforward than they make it out to be... but at the same time it's something that seems like it has to be done and in the end even though we're being lied to it's something that works out for the better, as we don't know what to expect going in... well, sort of =P

In response to the extra tidbit...

I like that Ridley Scott is keeping a tight lid on things, though I think it's pretty useless to keep denying that it's an "Alien" prequel, in some capacity, since it most obviously is.

If it didn't say "Prometheus" at the bottom, I'd have thought that's Pinhead from Hellraiser.

I'm not really feeling the brightened poster with lots of background detail to be quite honest. But it's still leaps and bounds ahead of generic posters.
As for the tidbit, I wish that more films would follow the mysterious approach. I can only hope that, with Prometheus, there's still a lot to look forward to come June. Being able to piece together an entire film with various trailers and a slew of clips might seem cool initially but then you're left with nothing to be dazzled by with the

I'm not sure how much more promotional material I want to see - perhaps a slightly longer trailer and the official website with a few still images and downloads.

I love that Ridley is keeping us in the dark on this as it's so difficult to do in the information age.

Tibit

I'm glad this film is being very secretive. Movie is going to be a blast and better without any spoilers seeing it on opening night.
