PTA doing horror?

Jan. 25, 2008by: James Thoo
Update: For better or for worse, AICN seem to have quashed this rumor.

I'm a huge gambler, and the only reason I'm steering clear of putting money on the Coens' NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN is that I loved the shit out of THERE WILL BE BLOOD and I really hope it takes home best picture. Of course, I was predisposed to liking it, since I've loved everything PT Anderson has done, from features to music videos. And I'm not a fan of horror movies per se, but he might be about to change that, since the rumor today is his next project might just be a genre horror flick like THE EXORCIST. B-D is reporting the story from a 'well-trusted insider', which isn't the source of repute you'd like, but hey, what're you gonna do? Apparently just an idea he has at the moment, he's gonna make a decision on it within the coming week. Anderson's THERE WILL BE BLOOD has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing. Somewhat controversially, Johnny Greenwood's tremendous score has been disqualified from the Best Original Score category for including pre-existing music.

PT Anderson's sweet video for Fiona Apple's 'Paper Bag':

Extra Tidbit: There'll be a tidy sum going down on Day-Lewis to win that Best Actor Oscar, though. And a cheeky bet on Marion Cotillard for Best Actress.

fail

"I love PTA and this sounds like a great idea, but enough with 'Blood'! It's easily the weakest of the best pic noms and overlong by more than an hour. Everyone is just focusing on it because Lewis' performance was so great. When you look at it though, it's the same performance he did as the Butcher in 'Gangs', which he should have won for, so maybe this is his year. Sweet performance - over-rated film."

I'm just happy we are all debating movies that i enjoyed so much instead of movies that i thought were just 'ok' (like the 2006 nominees -Crash, Capote, etc)

This is healthy.

Well, Omen....

.....I know you didn't ask ME, but snubwise I'ma go with either Rose Bryne for Sunshine, Across the Universe for anything, or Helena Bonham Carter for Sweeney Todd

Hey HoyleHaw...

...thanks for the response. I too agree that it's PTA's finest since Boogie Nights, but I just didn't feel it was as complete a film as No Country. Take out Lewis and the movie fails big time. No Country had 3 great performances! I read your posts and I respect your opinions on a regular basis, so here's a question, who got the biggest snub this year? Bale for Rescue Dawn, Brolin for Country & American Gangster or Ridley Scott?

Omen666, I'd just like to say, I don't do drugs, but "There Will Be Blood" is Anderson's finest since "Boogie Nights," and is at least equal to "No Country for Old Men," if not better.

I'm down

I've loved everything PTA's done so far, and I think There Will Be Blood is not only miles better than No Country, but the best movie to come out in the past decade. Here's hoping PTA will go all out with a horror flick, I know I'd love to see it.

GREAT

As long as this doesn't end up being his 'Panic Room', I'd love to see him try his hand at some genre fare. Let's have a P.T. Anderson sci-fi after the horror one :)

Bring it.

This guy doesn't make enough movies. Daniel Day-Lewis already owns that Oscar.

I don't care what type of movie this guy is directing next.

I just have to see his name and I AM THERE!
