Puss in Boots site gives us first look at Salma's kitty

06.21.2010

The SHREK spinoff PUSS IN BOOTS doesn't hit theaters until November of next year but the film already has a new official website. There's not a ton of information on there but we do get a glimpse of Puss and his new lady friend Kitty (voiced by Salma Hayek).

The site has a very quick look at the story, which says it will take a look at Puss' "early adventures as he teams with mastermind Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis) and the street-savvy Kitty (Salma Hayek) to steal the famed Goose that lays the Golden Eggs."

We've also learned that joining the cast of Antonio Banderas, Hayek and Galifianakis will be Billy Bob Thorton and Amy Sedaris. It's unclear what roles they'll be playing but Sedaris voiced Cinderella in SHREK THE THIRD (which was directed by Chris Miller, who's also directing PUSS) and it's possible she could be recreating that role or doing something completely different. And I'll go out on a limb here and suggest that Thornton will be playing the film's villain, though that's just speculation.

Extra Tidbit: Thornton's only other voiceover work was for 1997's PRINCESS MONONOKE.

I'd rather see Banderas in another Zorro movie. Sure, part 2 sucked hard, but if Men in Black and Transformers can have a third installment why not Zorro. I loved the first film, and a third has more potential than a Shrek spinoff. Plus, I can't think of the last time I saw Catherine Zeta-Jones and Banderas in a live-action film.

Puss in Boots was an attempt at winning hearts when Shrek came to a close. And it didn't work for me.

While Puss In Boots, since his introduction in the second film, has always been the only decent thing in the film series, I'm still not sure if we need this.

Dreamworks has been throwing pop culture around like a ragdoll, and despite what they say, when people go to see any "Shrek" related thing, it's what the expect, so I expect the worst.

we do need this. this makes sense. puss in boots is a great character, not in the Dreamworks universe, but in the literary and film universe. SKG can do this shit.

Alright guys, the whole Shrek versus Toy Story thing is over now, they've both come to pass. It's already been stated that Puss In Boots is not going to follow the same pop-culture reference route as the Shrek films. Do you remember that old animated tv movie of Puss In Boots? it was really good...a great character. and with some romance in the mix, this could be good. which is more likely, that a guy who has directed a crappy movie in the past will atone for it and make up for it with a

alright the way i set up that question makes it sound stupid, but i'm just saying, every director has to find his mojo

It is over, and Toy Story has triumphed. My question to you though, is why bring TS here? No else mentioned it, so what the hell?

Also, yeah, sure, every director deserves a few shots at making a movie, but what if this person is like Uwe Boll, and thus has no mojo?

i'm bringing toy story into it because let's be honest toy story is always part of the discussion, duh. i mean that both negatively and positively if that is possible. basically...as far as dreamworks versus [link] is starting over from scratch now! deal with it.

One of the main reasons I enjoyed Shrek 2 was Puss in Boots and I am totally on board with a spin off. Antonio and Salma doing cat voices is awesome, Antonio does great voice work with Puss in Boots, a reason why that character worked in the first place.

That title is pretty suggestive of something else if you think about it. This movie looks like it could at the very least be somewhat interesting.

If they were going to have to spin-off a character from the series, i'm glad it's Puss. He was the funniest thing about part 4, which isn't saying much.

Count me OUT...

So they're allowing the guy who directed the worst of all Shrek movies to also direct a spinoff? Why? I'm trying to gather some reasoning here. Also, Shrek outstayed its welcome. I don't think anyone ever said "Hey, we're tired of Shrek but we'd LOVE to see spinoffs of the characters".
