Strike Back below!
by: George Merchan Dec. 30, 2009

It's the last week of 2009, and thus, the slowest news week of the year! Fortunately, we've been able to find you guys some pretty cool stuff to munch on before you all go and destroy your livers in the next couple of days. Paul yesterday found this awesome bit of Tarantinoism, and now I just came across this short but sweet interview over at The Hollywood Reporter where QT talks a little bit about casting, franchises, and just being a badass. Check it out!

Extra Tidbit: What franchise do you wish Tarantino could someday tackle, or would you prefer he just stuck with original material (or maybe another adaptation a la JACKIE BROWN)?

I never heard that bit about Casino Royale before, that would definitely have been interesting. But not nearly as good as what we got in 2006.

I think it would be cool to see Tarantino direct a darker, more violent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie. Not that it would ever happen.

I like the long lenses they use to shoot the CU within these interviews.

The Broccolis' own the rights to Bond as a character, but they didn't have the rights to Casino Royale, book wise. QT is saying that he tried to get the rights for Bond. He would then also have to get the rights for the book itself. QT isn't dumb enough to tell a bold face lie in an interview.

If he got the rights to Casino Royale, but not the Bond rights, he would be able to take the Casino Royale storyline and all of its details, but wouldn't have been able to call it Bond or have anything to do with Bond.

The interview was alright, but nothing really I didn't already know...

Here He Goes Again...
I for one am a little sick of him blathering about "his version" of "Casino Royale". He's been whining about it for years. He says he wanted to do it right after PF in the mid-90's but the Broccolis wouldn't give him the rights??? The Broccolis didn't even own the rights to CR in the mid-90's. He even claims that they only got the idea to make the movie when he suggested it, which is pure horse...

He even claims that they only got the idea to make the movie when he suggested it, which is pure horse shit, they wanted to make CR since the 60's, they just couldn't get the rights (they had all of Fleming's books except that one, which was owned by Charles Feldman). And from what I hear about his ideas for "his version" of it, I think I prefer the version they made. Quentin, just shut up about it.

Not sure which franchise...
but i'm looking forward to see what he does with the genre of Sci-Fi when he gets round to it. And i'm sure he will one day.

PREACHER ?!
I don't think you'll ever see QT do a Spandex and tights comic adaptation but surely he'd be perfect for Preacher?! The central romance between Tulip and Jesse is very similar to Alabama and Clarence from True Romance. Kill Bill shows he can handle action and ultra- violence and Jackie Brown shows he can adapt material. There's also a load of foul language which I'm not sure Tarantino would...

The Biggest problem with recent QT movies is baggy pacing and self indulgent running times. Give the man a take no s**t producer who only cares about butts on seats.

Preacher is an amazing book and would make for an amazing return to form by one of the best directors in the world. Sorry Mendes.

Baggy pacing? I'll agree with you as far as the first half of Death Proof is concerned, but I wouldn't remove a single scene from Kill Bill or Inglorious Basterds. Butts in seats? No thanks, I don't want Tarantino watered down for the masses.

Denzel Washington
I would love to see Quentin write a part for Denzel Washington. Always wanted those 2 to work together.

Did you see when Denzel and QT were on the Jonathan Ross show together earlier this year? Denzel said he'd love to work with him and Quentin replied that he thinks Denzel is awesome but would only cast him if he fit a certain character...just like he says in this video.

I like his films, and, he always comes off as the kind of person id hang out with, but, isnt calling yourself a bad ass the very definition of not being a bad ass?

Also, most of elmore leonards books are connected. Theres a book with Ordel and Louis, and, im prety sure that Nicolette is in a few books. I would love to see him tackle another leonad adaption

He did laugh at himself when he said it. He may be pompous, but he's self-aware about it.

He's talked about doing a Bond movie before and that would be beyond cool. It may sound like (and may be) a bad match, but I'd like to see him take over the Terminator franchise. I know it's a total dream, but I could really see him flipping it on it's head and breathing a lot of life into it.
