Quaid on Pandorum 2

6 years agoby:

This weekend sees the release of PANDORUM, the sci-fi thriller starring Dennis Quaid and the boys from Arrow in the Head got to talk to him recently about the future (and past?) of the franchise. Obviously any kind of sequel is contingent on how well the film does but it does seem that the film's creators have mapped out what happened both prior to and following the events in PANDORUM.

Says Quaid, "There is a prequel and a sequel. The thing about PANDORUM is there is a mythology that goes along with it that is in some ways, very similar to how Joseph Campbell and his mythology was imprinted on STAR WARS. There is mythology that goes with Pandorum as well. Hopefully we'll get to do it, that would be great."

Invoking STAR WARS and its trilogy is always treading dangerous waters for an ambitious sci-fi franchise (last time I heard that was around PITCH BLACK and well...) but at least they're aiming high. How are you feeling about PANDORUM so far? Are you interested in this film, let alone a sequel?

The full Quaid interview will be up later this week but to hear a little bit more from the man on his upcoming projects (including GI JOE 2), click here to head to AITH.

Extra Tidbit: Still no word on INNERSPACE 2.

SEQUEL

I think it would be awesome! I really loved the movie and it would be great if you could create a sequel, i'd love to find out what will happen next after they found out that they were on Pandorum already and what they are supose to do on this new planet, I loved it, i'd definetly like to see a continue of this movie!

For someone who loved the movie, you weren't paying much attention. The planet they went to wasn't called Pandorum - you're thinking of Pandora from Avatar. Pandorum was the sickness some of the ship's crew had...

Looks good, and if it's as interesting as I hope, I wouldn't mind either or.

Dude, is it really impossible to just release a good horror movie and then leave it at that without making sequels with new inferior directors and all the bullshit that will most like inevitably follow?

If this movie flops, which I have a good feeling it will, than I guess that mythology will be floating in the heads of the crew and cast.

I'm There

Dennis Quaid is one of my favorite actors and knowing that there is a bigger scope to Pandorum than simply a one-off film makes this a must-see for me. When sequels/prequels are an organic extention of one film's overall plot, I not only welcome them, I prefer such episodic experiences to say, a single film that only provides a two-hour glimpse at its world and characters. Of course, only time will tell if Pandorum creatively and financially merits a sequel/prequel, but I'm certainly willing

Mythology?

I'm getting a little tired of any film that sets up a back story suddenly has a "mythology". Joseph Campbell showed the relationship between various myths to one another and how they relate to our lives; he never created a "mythology". Tarantino blabs occasionally about the "mythology" of his films. Truth is: These imbeciles have NO IDEA what they are talking about!

I was thinking the same thing, how do you have a mythology if no one has ever heard of it? How do you have a mythology before the first film ever comes out?
