Quentin Tarantino confirms that filming on Hateful Eight will begin in 2015

11 months agoby:

Earlier this month, Kurt Russell said that he may start shooting THE HATEFUL EIGHT with Tarantino around the beginning of next year. Despite Tarantino seeming like he had warmed up to the idea of shooting a version of THE HATEFUL EIGHT, there had been no confirmation from the studio or QT himself. It's possible QT was just waiting for the right venue to convey the news, as he's confirmed during his panel at SDCC that shooting on THE HATEFUL EIGHT will start in early 2015.

A reading of the script was performed earlier this year by the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, Kurt Russell, Amber Tamblyn, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, James Parks, Michael Madsen and James Remar. While it seems Russell is rearing to go, there's been no official word on casting yet. I'm more than happy with that stage line-up, so if Tarantino is able to bring them back in front of the cameras, that would be great!

For what it's worth, Tarantino also remarked about an Earth-bound Sci-Fi film he had in mind. Whether or not that comes to fruition, we'll see. He also said he liked the idea of putting his own spin on INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, where his take would be the point-of-view of the pod people. Whether or not that idea and his Earth-bound Sci-Fi flick are connected . . . remains to be seen. Looks like he'll venture more into western territory first!

THE HATEFUL EIGHT, with at least Kurt Russell, will begin filming in early 2015.

Christoph Waltz made Django Unchained. I felt that Jamie Foxx was his polar opposite and dragged the movie down. Yet anything Tarantino makes is at least worth a watch (or two). I have a lot of great memories watching westerns with my father, so any new gunslinging on the big screen is appreciated too.

Glad he stopped feeling butt hurt and is going to make the movie. That cast line-up is awesome, lets hope he keeps it, would love to see Russell have a juicy, bad ass role again, plus reunited with Roth and Madsen.

Let's be honest here...

QT's last great movie was Pulp Fiction. Which is undoubtedly a great classic perfect film. Yet, since then he's been going downhill with Inglorious Basterds (which was decent, not great) an exception. Don't get me wrong, it would be hard to match or beat the genius of Pulp Fiction but he has been really bland, Kill Bill and Django were really overrated films. Nothing worth a repeated viewing.....and I'd expect the same from his next film. I just don't see the same QT as we saw 20 years

I just don't see the same QT as we saw 20 years ago...but I don't put him on a pedestal or anything because I can name dozens of directors who have had ONE genius movie on their resume and QT isn't above or below them. So I don't get the whole QT obsession some film-lovers have.

You lost me at "Django was overrated". Maybe the best film of the last 10 years. In fact, it's so good that I'm almost convinced he had (a lot of) help writing it, but his narcism forbade giving someone else writing credit. ^^

Agree. Stephan, I saw something that the actual story was full of discrepancies, like the simple fact that dynamite didn't even exist at the time of the story. You'd think a "genius" like QT would get some historical accuracies correct.

I'll say that there was a definite shift between the QT of JAckie Brown and the QT of Kill Bill. And while Jackie Brown is my PERSONAL favorite of his, and Pulp Fiction is what I consider his BEST movie from an objective standpoint, he's still one of my favorite writers of dialogue in Hollywood, and I wouldn't say he's made a particularly bad movie unless you count Four Rooms.

Nothing against that list of actors, but we've seen them all work with QT before. Tarantino brings out something new and great with each actor he puts in his films, and I'd like to see him bring in some fresh faces. Bring back some of them, Sam Jackson in particular, but have a mostly new cast.

I like the cast from the reading but....

Hopefully Dern, Russell, Jackson, Roth, Goggins and Madsen get to keep their roles. It's also likely QT will add a few big names to the cast, a couple of bigger name actors I would love seeing in this, that he hasn't worked with would be(in no particular order): Sam Rockwell(get this man an Oscar!), Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Denzel Washington, Joaquin Phoenix, Julianne Moore, Demi Moore, Matthew McCoughney, Amy Adams, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Lawrence, Meyrl Streep, Robert Downey Jr, Don

It would be cool to see him work again with Michael Keaton, DiCaprio, Waltz, Pitt, DeNiro, Uma, Clooney or Woody Harrelson (debatable if the "worked" together" ). Anytime we get a new QT movie is as big as anything else for me and his casting is as anticipated as characters from the MCU!

I really, REALLY hope Walton Goggins signs on for this and it's a big, vital, meaty role. The guy deserves a great film role and break after his brilliant turns in The Shield, and Justified.

Wonder if Tarantino tries to get Waltz involved in this somehow as well and tries to go for the Oscar hat trick.

After his role in Django and being asked to be a part of this reading I would guess QT likes him and he could be getting a prime role in this. I agree that he is very talented and deserves something to "unveil" his awesomeness to the masses.

What Goggins did in that final season of The Shield has stuck with me for years.

He is such an incredible douche. Waaaaa my script was leaked. Waaaaa. Oh since my lawsuit fell through I'll go ahead and make the movie now and use the publicity from the leak and the lawsuit, which will happen.
