Quentin Tarantino reveals that his next film will be a western

Nov. 27, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Well, fans of Quentin Tarantino now have something to look forward to.

While visiting The Tonight Show last night, the autueur revealed just what his next film will be.

"I haven't told anyone this publicly, but I will say the genre: It's a western."

The film won't be a sequel to DJANGO UNCHAINED, which won him a best screenplay Oscar, but something else entirely.

"I had so much fun doing Django, and I love westerns so much that after I taught myself how to make one, it's like 'OK! Let me make another one now that I know what I'm doing."

Tarantino didn't give specifics on the actual story as he usually holds those details close to the chest, but did discuss his writing habits,

"Around the time of Inglourious Basterds I'd start writing at home from 10 in the morning until 5, or 6 or 7," he said. He would then go soak in the pool to mull over his work for the day.

"I sit there, and I think about it and all of these ideas come to me ... and I kind of work it out a little bit. Then I get out of the pool and I make notes, but then I don't do them. Then the next day, that's my work."

Like most film geeks, I've been a fan of Tarantino since RESERVOIR DOGS and he's continued to be a filmmaker with a voice since that time. He's one of the few filmmakers to remain consistent in terms of delivering quality work, tackling new techniques and genres, while still retaining his personal style. If nothing else, he's an exciting filmmaker to watch, just to see what he'll do next, even if it's likely another take on a revenge flick.

More as this develops.

Red Dead Redemption

I would like to see a film by him that is close to the game Red Dead Redemption. It has the disgusting feeling of the old west.

Hmm, i'm thinking its going to be a Native Canadian Pocahontas kicks racist white ass! This being the Tarantino-verse, her decendant will probably turn out to be 'The Bride' from Kill Bill.

Mag 7

I'd bet dollars to donuts that it's gonna be an ensemble western in the vein of Magnificent 7. And that is A.O.K. by me.
Bring that shit.

While I expected Tarantino to witch it up again like he has for the past few films, I'm happy there's someone out there working in the western genre, and that that person is Quentin Tarantino.

After giving it a lot of thought, I'd like to see Quentin do a Depression-era movie. Maybe bootleggers, maybe bank robbers, maybe street fighting. Hell, maybe all those things combined. If he wanted to keep things historical like his past few, but still fresh, I think he'd have the most luck there. I

Please please let it be a pure stylish spagetti western. Its a looong time since we had a proper one, now a days its all about gritty, realistic, "accurate" western.... well enough of that!

His passion for western's is massive and has a vast knowledge of the genre. Would be really cool if he gave Clint Eastwood a cameo or supporting role.

Tarantino: The Musical

i wanna see Tarantino tackle a musical. I love all of his movies and can appreciated any genre if the material is good. A musical is something so out there for him that no one would expect it. It would be like nothing else you've ever seen before. I'm not talking about sound and dance "sound of Music" style, but the bloody and lyrical material Tarantino delivers. It truly will be something we've never seen before.

That or an animated film.

going with something more conventional, i'd say

going with something more conventional, i'd say he'd make a good cop movie, he's worked with the gangsters, criminals, and outlaws. Lets see how well he could handle the guys trying to stay on the right side of the law.

IF it is another revenge style western I would like to see him take on something like a Hannie Caulder type story and put his own spin on it.

Loved Django Unchained and would love to see what else be could do with a Western. Also can't wait to hear about casting either. Would love for him to cast Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender again and maybe also cast Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, James Franco, or even Leonardo DiCaprio again.

Soooo basically you'd like him to cast every top name in Hollywood?

Why didn't Ryan Gosling make the cut?
