Quentin Tarantino's next film may revolve around the Manson Family murders

07.11.2017

It's always exciting to see which project Quentin Tarantino chooses to tackle next, and, according to THR, his next film could revolve around the Manson Family murders. The outlet states that Tarantino has been quietly putting the project together and has been talking with several A-list actors for what is described as a "unique take on the Manson Family murders." The title of the film is currently unknown, but, as usual, Quentin Tarantino would both write and direct the project.

THR's sources say that Tarantino is close to putting the finishing touches on the script and that both Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence have been approached, but that any actor involvement is sure to be in the very early stages at this point. Deadline notes that Margot Robbie has also met with Tarantino, potentially to play Sharon Tate. Bob and Harvey Weinstein will be involved and are said to be in the early stages of shopping the project to studios interested in co-financing and co-distributing the film. Studios may receive the package after Labor Day (September 4th) and the plan is to shoot the film in 2018. It's obviously far too soon to say how Quentin Tarantino's script will approach the horrific murders, but one of the story's will apparently center around Sharon Tate, the pregnant wife of director Roman Polanski who was murdered by Manson's followers on August 9, 1969.

THR notes that if the Manson Family murders project does indeed become Quentin Tarantino's next film, it will be the first of his movies to be based on true events. However, Tarantino has shown that he has no issue playing fast and loose with history, such as the killing of certain historical figures in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. I briefly considered that Tarantino's "unique take" on the events might involve Sharon Tate surviving and seeking vengeance, but that would stray a little too close to KILL BILL territory, and if the director really does plan on retiring after ten movies, I can't imagine that he'd want to repeat himself.

What do you folks think of Quentin Tarantino possibly taking on the Manson Family murders?

If QT can get Sharlto Copley as Charles Manson I''m totally there otherwise, I'm on the fence and observe how this will pan out.

I don't know how I feel about this, mainly because it feels so counter to what Tarantino does to make a movie based on (inspired by?) a true crime story. This isn't exactly him reimagining World War II. On one hand I don't think the Manson Murders have really gotten the big screen treatment, outside of maybe an indie or two, even though there are a number of made-for-TV movies/shows about it. On the other hand, Tarantino is not someone who has ever struck me as particularly concerned with the

Maybe he plans on drawing from the Helter Skelter murders the same way Ed Gein inspired Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

It's a fascinating case - if told from the perspective of Manson's "family" it could make for an incredible film. You'd need some really strong female leads. I'd definitely be interested to see Tarantino's take on this - in many cases dealing with a true crime he'd have to reign himself in a bit, but the facts behind this case, the investigation and the trial are all pretty far out anyway. Read the book Helter Skelter if you need proof.

Sounds like a unique take on the subject; especially with Tarantino writing and directing. And Pitt, Robbie, and Lawrence would be a fantastic trio to sign on as well. But you know that Tarantino is going to have a part for Samuel L Jackson in this based off past films.

I still want to see Tarantino write and direct an old school gangster film before he 'retires' for good.

I love him, and I trust him, but I don't want to see a stylized horror version of a true horror. It would be neat if it didn't follow history I guess, but that story's been done. And Polanski is still alive man.

Polanski. Wow, I hadn't thought about that. It's gotta be weird to see somebody make a film about your wife being murdered. I'll see it regardless. The man is a genius. However I was hoping Tarantino would make a film in the sci-fi genre before he retired. There's still time I suppose.

I'm confused, are we worried about Polanski having to relive these events? Because he's not a good person.

And murdered while pregnant. It may not be true, but I remember hearing she begged to let the baby to live and they denied her that. I've seen and enjoyed a few torture porn movies, but they were all fictional. And if QT went a different way and made her the bride and made the most amazing badass action movie, it would still be hard to fully enjoy bc it didn't happen. And ppl who knew and loved her are still alive. I'll go see anything QT does, and I'm sure he truly is more classy to do

The only other thing I can think of is making her a superhero saving the day, and then saying that was all a dream, we know what happened, like atonement. But ppl would feel worse walking out of that film than all combined. But he's a genius creative storyteller.

And iamzardoz, if there's one man who should be able to walk into heaven with out a conversation or a question, it's Roman Polanski (well I'm sure Nobel peace prize winners and ppl like that can as well), but nobody can talk shit ab him. He grew up literally in the holocaust. Lost his family in the camps. As like a 5 year old. His mom is gassed into the shower. He makes it out, gets over here. Big hot shot director. Every book and documentary agrees that he made a poor decision. And she

And the judge wanted to be famous, so all his decisions were made to get him more attention, which he had to get from a star, and it'd be straight up thrown out of court now. The girl has said she wasn't raped. He prolly did take advantage of her but she wanted to fuck a movie star. And idk the age gap, but so many ppl could and would and have done that on both sides. And he mis used his celebrity for sex, and she Mis used her sexuality to be with a man. He's not a pedophile. I mean, maybe a year in prison. But honestly I think majority of ppl would do the same in his position, even with a perfect house life. And then he loses his pregnant fiancé. He's dealt with enough. And was she after Tate? I think maybe so.

"I can't imagine he'd want to repeat himself" yea because Hateful Eight wasn't a repeat of Reservoir Dogs. Can only imagine the complete turkey he's going to make of history. An actual good movie that is truly about the Manson murders would actually be interesting. Too bad Tarantino will make something like a live action cartoon of it with unrealistic dialogue
