We usually hear plenty of speculation about potential follow-ups to our favorite movies, but rarely does so much of it come from people who will ostensibly be involved. Especially when it comes to GHOSTBUSTERS 3.

The team's pompadoured spirit-catcher Harold Ramis is (again) talking up the vaporsequel, first telling Heeb that "Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too."

Nothing we haven't heard numerous times, right? But Ramis continues by proclaiming something comparatively definitive: "GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011."

On the money, or wishful thinking? While the studio and fans (and Michael Cera) undoubtedly have their collective fingers crossed, at this point the whole thing remains an undeveloped Class 1 ectoplasmic manifestation.

Extra Tidbit: IMDB actually has a release date of 2012 for GHOSTBUSTERS 3, and IMDB is always always accurate.

just watched Year One. glad I only paid a buck to rent it from red box!
HMMM? I'll believe it when I see it. I wouldn't mind Michael Cera being in this. He's pretty funny, but Year One was pretty lousy!

If Egon does show up fat and bearded, I won't buy into his stoic schtick anymore. Ramis should lose the gut and beard if he wants to come off Egonish. Hudson, Aykroyd, and Murray all still resemble their characters very much. Ramis is too much of a jolly old Jew these days.

EDIT: You know what? Call me crazy, but I would absolutely LOVE to see Michael Swaim don a ghostbusting...

Happy to hear it's coming up, the first 2 were great! But with the recent follow-ups to my childhood movies, I have a feeling this one will also disappoint.

I think I have better odds of seeing a real ghost, than seeing this movie soon.
